“Hen Break - great hotel”
Reviewed 15 October 2011

We stayed at Silchoro in September - a group of 11 women, ages 25-35. The hotel itself is situated away from the strip but is within walking distance. We got taxis as there were so many of us and they were around 4 euros wherever you wanted to go. The rooms were a little dated but more than sufficient, very big and more than enough room. We even had two bathrooms which was great with so many girls! We had 3 two bed apts, which could have slept 6 comfortably. We didn't experience much noise from other residents and when we arrived were asked to be on our best behaviour for other guests which we did. The pool area is a good size and a good mix of families, couples and groups of friends. All in all was great for our purpose and we would go back. If you want something right on the strip though, this is not for you.

Shabby apartments well in need of updating -Tried emailing hotel with enquiries before arriving but they never replied.-Studio apartments have 2 sofas that need to be converted into beds every night ,all rooms have TV however only deliver grainy pictures in Portuguese pointless as I never met a single Portuguese guest.Reception charges you 75 cents to call a taxi a shame as I thought that was a very basic requirement from hotel lobby staff.. Door with disabled access to the pool Kept locked to encourage you to go through the bar.Hotel mini bus runs only when you don’t need it and doesn’t bring you back ,a shame as that is the uphill bit. Don’t book a wake up call on your last day if leaving early as ours was promised but not delivered.very basic but fairly clean.

We booked this hotel like others after reading old reviews with some worry about what we might have let ourselves into?

This hotel is dated, no airconditioning, No double beds, the wooden furniture on the terracotta tiles can be heard being moved at all ours of day and Night !

Tv in room has 4 local channels and the size of a sat nav

It does attract some less upmarket punters and to add this to the furniture being moved late at night. Be warned.

They need wi fi as they did have a computer hooked up to the net and it cost a fortune and could, like us have gone to a more expensive ( Updated hotel ) and worked out cheaper due to not paying for the net ( Son mainly going on facebook cost us a fortune)

The good pionts are "The Staff are Fantastic". They are always happy and very helpful. I think they must have took the cream of what Portugal had on offer.

We had dodgy lighting and a chair needed sorting. They sorted it within Minutes !

The rooms are massive and clean.

Good location

Great price

and once again Great Staff

We would stay again

Room Tip: We did not have a choice. But we did notice Large tv's in some of the rooms. I think they are ow...

So, we all read the previous reports and get a mental picture of the hell we will encounter. But, expect the worst and anything better is a bonus!. We stayed here because the holiday was cheap but as long as the room was clean, had a bed you could sleep in and a toilet that worked then there was no problem. Thankfully this proved to be the case at the Silchoro. We were in 506 (Second floor studio apt) and had a room that got sun from 10:00am till 6:00pm, had a sheltered balcony and overlooked the pool. Apart from the occasional noise from next door (Irish girls - you know who you are!!) and a dog in the nearby houses that like it's own sound we couldn't complain. The Receptionist (Calae?) was very helpful when we arrived and did a superb welcome induction and explained all the things you need to know but never ask. Courtesy mini bus to and fro the old town was also a nice touch. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from "The Strip" and a taxi back up after a few beers is about 4 euros. Many excellent places to eat out on and around the strip but special mention to Senhor Frog's pizza place near the bottom beside Mambo's bar (free samples at night time as you pass by that will make you want to go in).

Can't wait to go back and will be booking shortly for next year.

Room Tip: Complex has a couple of annexe buildings away from the pool - spoke to a couple of people who stayed...

Myself and my friend stayed here for a week at the end of September after booking a very cheap holiday. After reading reviews we were apprehensive but were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The apartments were very spacious and clean and we couldn't fault the service. On-site shop was very reasonably priced and the location was ideal because we were able to walk to the strip which had various restaurants, bars and clubs. I would recommend a taxi back at night from the strip if out until early hours which is very very cheap.
if i am being fussy then a new lock on the door and more sun loungers would have been better but I would recommend the apartments and would stay again.
