Myself and my husband stayed here for 5 nights. BOOK TRANSFERS PRE-HOLIDAY as we were charged 60 euros in an airport taxi. Not a great start to the holiday!
The hotel itself is nice although not 4*. Reception staff all lovely and very helpful. The main thing is that it's clean and very well equipped with all utensils for a self-catering appartment. Breakfast was nice although if you want eggs done any other way than scrambled, you are charged 1.50 euros! Fruit juices are diluted and not 'fresh' so were quite sweet.
Supermarket next door to the hotel has everything you would need, and cheap. Great to stock up on teabags, milk, bread etc. Very handy and open until 9pm.
Rooms are basic but clean. The tables and chairs are dragged along the floor in other rooms which is very very noisey!! To the point where I would not return to this hotel on that basis. We were awoken several times each night because of this which meant our sleep was interrupted. On the up side the beds are really comfy and I got a great sleep when others weren't making noise.
The sports bar under the hotel is great - nice staff and reasonable drink prices. Large peroni was 3 euros and a wine was only 2 euros. Show all football games and we watched the Golf Masters whilst there.
Paulu's Pizzeria was good value (to the left when leaving the hotel) - soup, pizza/pasta, salad and wine/beer/soft drink all for 10.50 euros.
The American/Irish bar at the top of the strip is really nice inside with modern decor. It's a steak house where I had the fillet with salad which was really good. It is expensive though with main courses around 20 euros each. All produce is supposedly organic though.
Pegasus Taverna pub/restaurant (across from Paulu's Pizzeria) is run by an English lady and her Portugese husband (I think). They are really nice and provide newspapers/magazines for you to sit and read with your drink. Nice homely place to go, very relaxed. Good prices.
Japanese restaurant (next door to Paulu's Pizzeria) is awesome. Beautiful proper sushi, great menu and lovely assistant. I tried green wine in here for the first time. Lovely meal and would have returned if on holiday for longer.
To get to the Old Town there is a blue and yellow train which does a 3.50 euros all day ticket. It runs all day (every 20mins) and is a nice experience. You need to walk up the strip to get to the train stop where you need to pass annoying people either trying to sell fake watches, hash, 'charlie' or trying to get you into their place for breakfast/lunch/dinner/drinks.We went there on a day which was overcast. It was a Sunday morning (around 9.30am) and we passed Heaven Nightclub which offered us to go in and join the Easter Party!! Haha.
What made our holiday (and our 1st year wedding anniversary) was attending Vila Joya restaurant. This is a 2 Michelin star restaurant 15 mins from Oura Praia Hotel (12 euros in a taxi). Look up the restaurant on Tripadvisor to get an idea of how special this place is. An experience I will remember for the rest of my life!!
5 nights was enough for us, a nice trip all the same.
