Firstly, I had checked reviews for this restaurant, and I can say it lived up to them all!
I booked the table via email with whom I presume was the manager, Jorge Mateus - I explained that we was going to be celebrating my partners birthday and asked if they could help make it a special occasion. I had no idea what was to come!
We arrived early, around 18:30 (table wasn’t booked until 20:30), but the staff were very catering as we fancied a few cocktails before our reservation, they sat us out on the terrace on a nice table with a lovely view out over to the sea. We started to get cold so we requested to move indoors if our table was ready for us, which it was.
Again, amazing! I had no idea what was in store, we arrived at the table covered in rose petals with a rose and gypsy Felicia mini bouquet in the middle. This set the mood for the rest of the night!
We requested some breads and olives, arriving quickly they were fresh and tasty. The breads were a oregano and a lemon zest flavoured!
For starter I ordered the creamy cauliflower soup, my partner had the chicken Piri piri, both very delicious, no complaints about either! The soup was accompanied well by both of the breads.
We decided to share a chateaubriand steak cooked medium rare for mains, we ordered ‘3 times potatoes’, creamy spinach and mixed grilled vegetables for sides, with a peppercorn and a mushroom sauce to go with. - all looked like a lot of effort had gone into preparing and presenting the dish. As well as being cooked perfectly it was very delicious
During this time we had a couple of soft drinks and lagers which were ordered and with us quickly.
For dessert we shared the orange creme brûlée, as this is my favourite dessert it exceeded what I was expecting very soft and creamy! The sugar coating on top was also executed well.
We relaxed letting our food go down for 10 odd minutes before requesting the bill.
Before the bill came again we were in for another surprise, a piece of chocolate cake with a candle and birthday message on the plate - along with the all the staff including the chefs came to sing happy birthday, what a brilliant way to end the night!
Thank you to all the staff at The Market Restaurant for making it a special celebration for my and my partner, they went above and beyond ensuring we had an amazing night. Thank you again
