“Fantastic time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 February 2012

We have a 3 year old and booked this holiday as it seemed to be very child orientated. I must say it really lived up to expections.

As most parents would agree the main feature of any holiday is the pool and this hotel has 4. We spent most of our time at the one with the water slides and near the water fountains. Our son had an absolute ball. There is also a pretty good play area near there so there really is plenty to keep young ones occupied. At the pool during the day theres plenty of snacks such as hotdogs, pizza, ham sandwiches and ice cream. There is a kids club but we did not use it as there really was no point as our little one did not need any other entertainment. However I must say the first choice staff were brilliant with the children. You also do not need to pack any pool towels as the hotel provides them and gives you a clean one every other day.

The food at the hotel is very good. Im a vegetarian and never struggled to find anything to eat. There is also a kids section with plastic plates serving the usual fish fingers/sausage/Pizza etc. They also have english tea bags for a nice brew in a morning. I must say the BBQ lunch is by far the best the food according to my son and my husband and they do this 1-2 times per week.

On an evening there was the usual kids entertainment which is a bit repetative but our son loved it and thats all that matters to us so we did not mind. The bar by the main pool on the evening is a quiet but nice place to sit for a drink. The larger on draught is San Miguel which we like, the shorts were very nice also, considering that they are local but for 1Euro you can have a branded drink if you wish.

We had a 1 bed appartment and I would defo recomend this if you have a small child with you as you get a seperate bedroom (sliding doors) from the main room where there is a pull out bed for your little one to sleep. The room also has a very large balcony and kitchen with a fridge (ideal if you want to keep milk cold etc) and a TV. It really is a very large room.

We loved the holiday in May so much that we decided to go back in september and again it did not disapoint. But we opted for a standard room on our second visit and given the amount of stuff you have when travelling with a little one (pram, DVD play, toys, books). I would say this room was not large enough the extra for the 1 bed apartment is definately worth the extra money.

I would definatley recomend this hotel if youve got children - our son has not stopped talking about the fantastic time he had. We are going to another holiday village in Tenerief in May as we really think they are brilliant value for money. W will let you know what its like!

Room Tip: Pay the bit extra for a 1 bed appartment if you are staying here with a small child - the standard r...

Hotel is clean & bright. Food was great, always a good choice, my daughter is very fusssssssy & always found something she liked, peolple that said they never got anything they liked must walk around with there eyes closed or are really fussy!!!! We had great weather, & the kids were in the pool all day, they loved loved the slides. We went with friends & we had rooms in the main block beside each other which was great, the rooms are great to, plenty of room & we were very happy with what we found when we got ot our rooms.

Room Tip: Ask for Main Block, & not to face the swimming pool.

My wife and I went here in September having read a mixture of reviews about the place. If you like and expect 4 star food then there is no question that this is not the place for you.
The hotel and facilities were fine, the room was large and well fitted out and very comfortable. The big let down was the food - reall poor choice and really poor quality. If you like burgers and chips then you are OK - otherwise forget it. We had cottage pie as the main course on 4 evenings while we were there. Lunchtime, the salad bar was good providing you didn't want any meat, fish or cheese to go with the lettuce etc. The final parting shot was three days before we came home, we had a pancake at lunchtime with a big piece of metal in it. All this and one day they ran out of butter and it took them until lunchtime the following day before somebody obviously went to the supermarket and came back with a catering size tub of margarine that everybody dipped in to!!.

Hotel, staff, food all very good! I read some reviews and was horrified and wanted to cancel, I am glad I didnt! there are a couple of nags but nothing significant, we stayed in Colina 2 the one that everyone moans about the steps, they are not that bad unless you are in a wheel chair, disabled or struggle to walk, I was pushing my son in his pushchair up and down these steps at least 3 times a day! Also, the beach is a bit of a trek but to be fair we had a 2.5 year old son that loved it around the waterpark / hotel swimming pool so we only ventured out once to sea. We booked a 1 bed app and I would recommend this room type if you have children, sliding door to seperate your hildren from your bedroom, also has a fully equiped kitchen (we only used it for tea and coffee first thing in the morning and the fridge).

Room Tip: If I had a choice I would of liked to stay in the main building, pool view although Colina 2 was ok.

Stayed for the October half term and were allocated in block 2. We had booked 2 apartments and were allocated them next door to each other. Was initially a bit dissapointed after reading reviews as we would have liked to stay in block 1 but was actually glad after that we hadn't been as it is quieter and the supermarket is here and there is also a bar where you can get drinks and snacks. There are steps and a ramp to go up and down between the blocks but after all the food you eat it does burn off a few calories.
On arrival we were greeted by Aaron the First Choice rep and he took us down to our room. He was fantastic always happy and helpful. The rooms were large with kitchenette (including fridge and kettle), air conditioning and had large balconies. Our room next door had a slightly larger balcony which is due to the layout of the building.
The hotel has several pools, at least one by each block and the spash pool and water slides not far from the reception. The slides are only for childen up to 12 years so if your not a child don't go on them and you won't get hurt! The pools were very cold but once you are in and swimming they are ok, i'm sure it would be a relief to get into one in the summer months. There is also an indoor pool which is heated but we didn't use it.
All inclusive is on until 11pm but in the bar in Block 1 it is 12am.
The food in the Palm restaurant was varied with a selection of hot and cold food and plenty of salad and fruit. Only booked 1 visit to the A La Carte restaurant and opted for Portuguese, this was the only let down of the holiday as it was awful.
The Palm restaurant was opened early at 6:30am for people on early flights home.
The evening entertainment staff Lauren, Ben, James, Amy and Natalie worked really hard every evening with so much energy and we saw their last performance together for the end of the season.
As we were out most days we didn't really see the daytime team but i'm sure they worked really hard also!
Albufeira is a nice walk away and we did this a few times but a taxi is only 4-6 euros. It is cheaper to flag a taxi down as it costs 50 cents to call from reception and the taxi company charge 80 cents for a telephone booking however there are only about 3 taxis in Albufeira that carry more than 4 people so these will need to be booked.
The only excursion we went on was Zoomarine. As you don't book which day you go on (which is good in case the weather is bad) you just wait at the bus stop next to the hotel and the Zoomarine coach will stop there and pick you up at about 10:25. The only disadvantage to this was the coach had to go around every bus stop just in case someone was waiting there so the journey there took about an hour and a half. We did go to the shopping centre in Guia (ask for Algarve shopping if you want to go) and took a taxi which is not far from Zoomarine and this cost about 18 euros. The dolphin and seal shows at Zoomarine are fantastic and you can get your photo taken with them for 15 euros. To swim with the dolphins is about 154 euros if you prebook but this includes your transport and park entry.
We also went to Vilamoura by taxi which was about 18-20 euros each way (should have hired a car!!) and saw the marina and has shops and some fancier restaurants but didn't try them as we were never hungry being All inclusive.
Would definitely go back to the Holiday Village and to the Algarve maybe earlier in the summer months but it was good because it was quieter but the weather is a little unpredictable.
