I've never stayed in a convent! What a delightful and unique property with beautiful rooms, fabulous religious art and fantastic food and drink. The Convento is located on a beautiful property with lovely olive and citrus trees, a beautiful pool and views of the neighboring countryside. Walking the halls of the property, you get to admire beautiful old art, sculpture and a stunning church that is part of the public areas. We had a wine tasting event in a space that appeared to be a grotto of sorts that was wonderful, with great nibbles, outstanding wines and great service. The room included free wifi and a great breakfast spread. The dining areas and other public areas were a combination of hip and convent chic. This would be a great home base for visits to neighboring Evora, or a break on ones way from Lisbon to Spain. Delightful time...

Room Tip: I believe all the rooms will have a good view and a balcony.

The only bad thing about this hotel is that I only got to stay here for one night. It was a group tour booking and my wife and I loved the room, the venue, service and especially the breakfast. It is a 17th century convent converted to a very upscale posada . The original convent chapel is a gem not to be missed. Our room over looked the lovely gardens and a spa and the bathroom was very modern . The breakfast itself is in a cloister like room with various semi private tables for each tour group. It was a full buffet breakfast with hot food options including individually made omelets.

The Convento do Espinheiro is truly a wonder of a hotel. It has everything one wants for a perfect escape, even from Lisboa, only an hour away. This is a beautiful, well-kept property run by professional and gracious staff. The rooms are outfitted regally; the grounds, especially the historic olive tree shown to guests on the daily welcome tour and wine-tasting, are splendid, as are the views of Portugal's sunbaked interior. The building itself is filled with soul -- the cloistered garden conjures memories of the silent worshippers who lived here centuries ago. The furnishings of the Great Hall are museum-quality, the restaurant serves abundant breakfasts for every taste and, in the evening, excellent food at reasonable prices. My companion drove around Evora's tiniest streets while I tried to recover from a cold, but the time we spent at El Convento was deffo unforgettable. Wouldn't change a thing! Obrigado.

Loved this place. Gorgeous setting. Rooms spacious and well appointed. Staff extremely helpful and pleasant. Gave great tips and suggestions for dinners. Friendly and helpful. Ricardo at desk of note.
Breakfast delicious and plentiful. Worth the splurge. Glad to say -No sense of minimalism in this convent! :)
