Last week we had dinner in this world class restaurant while staying over in their small 'hotel' too, which I will review here as well.
We were checked in by the fiendly chef himself, mr. Franky Vanderhaege and escorted to our room. We had the smallest room (only one left when we booked) in front of the house. The room is certainly not big, but very well appointed in a modern style, with a fantastic bed.
We decided to drive to the restaurant, because the hotel is exactly 400 meters away from the restaurant and you have to walk alongside a busy road.
We were welcomed by a friendly member of staff and seated at our table. We asked for the wine list where you can find beautiful wines from all over the world, with a very good range in prices as well to suit everyones budget. We opted for a Santenay Blanc, which was superb. After some lovely amuses we were served a four course dinner, which was divine. In following order we were served: snowcrab with parsnip, radish and pumpkin seeds, fried ray wing with leeks, cockles and octopus, pheasant with a rilette of pork belly and green cabbage and a dessert around the apple. Wow, what a fantastic dinner. The plates were all picture perfect and the taste stunning. The service was excellent too under the supervision of mrs. Sandra Vanderhaeghe: friendly and relaxed.
We slept well in their hotel but have to say that the room in the front of house is a bit noisy with quite some traffic already passing by early in the morning. One comment to make as well: without a cupboard, only two hangers for your clothes is a bit limited.
We ended our visit in the breakfast room where we we served a delicious breakfast: fresh apple and orange juices, great coffee's, lovely fruit plate, cheese and meats to die for, a perfectly cooked scrambled egg and a bread basket with a variety never seen before. Again wow; what a fantastic breakfast!
We have fallen in love with this place: a true gem in all aspects.
