The flat was just as we'd hoped - a great space in a great location. And Simon was always very helpful with his communication. Would definitely recommend for groups going to Gent.
Everything about this place was more than just good. It was clean, modern, well equiped, had enough space and was only a five minute walk from the city centre. The way the host organized and repsonded to everything was superior. I am completely satisfied with this stay.
Very near the centre. Exactly as described, if not better. All the amenities, even beer in the fridge!
Prior to our arrival Simon shared emails with information about things to do, places to eat etc. These were very helpful. We arrived following excellent directions to apartment. The space is beautiful. We were traveling with my husband and I and our 4 children 17-24 yrs old. The apartment was very large and clean. Each room had a sink and mirror which was very helpful. The shower was large and very clean. Simon stocked the fridge with cold Belgium beers for our arrival. This is a beautiful city and a wonderful apartment
Raamhof was a fantastic place to stay! It’s a block from the Burgstraat tram stop — this line will take you to and from the Sint-Pieter-Gent train station — and around the corner from a small but well-stocked Carrefour market that’s open seven days a week. The 3-bedroom apartment is large and on two levels. There are a lot of windows, which makes the apartment bright, and there’s a view of St. Michael’s church.
The kitchen has a combo oven/microwave, a medium-size refrigerator without a freezer, and a dishwasher (tabs are provided). A large table that seats eight is adjacent.
The living area has three large comfy sofas and a large-screen TV.
There’s a powder room downstairs next to the lower-level bedroom, and a full bathroom with both a tub and an enclosed shower upstairs. There's a section of glass flooring en route to the upstairs bathroom that provides a view of the kitchen area.
The bed is very comfortable and the neighborhood is quiet at night. We slept very well. Each bedroom has closets and there's a large clothes rack downstairs. Slippers are provided to wear in consideration of the downstairs neighbor.
There is a laundry room inside the apartment with both a washer and dryer. Detergent is provided.
The WiFi is high speed and reliable.
There is no parking available at the apartment, but pay parking is available 120 meters away. Between the trams and the train, we didn't feel the need of a car. (There are over 90 trains/day to Bruges!)
The apartment is on the second floor and the stairways leading up to the apartment and inside the apartment are both steep. Access to the building and the apartment is provided through a 6-digit code on keypads. It takes some practice to choreograph entering the code and turning the small round door knobs before the system times out.
Simon, the owner, was a pleasure to deal with. Prior to our trip, he emailed pages of information that included options for transport from the Brussels airport, recommended area groceries and other businesses, including chocolate shops. He outlined how to deal with the garbage and recycling. During our visit, he replied quickly when we emailed him about two battery issues. Simon provided kitchen staples, including EVOO, coffee and filters, sugar, and spices. A selection of Belgian beers were in the fridge when we arrived.
The one recommendation I would make to improve the renters’ experience is to provide quick pictorial guides for the oven/microwave, washer, dryer, and dishwasher. I downloaded these manuals in English online.
Gent is a charming place filled with history. Its people are friendly and helpful and many speak English. During your stay, it's easy to visit Bruges, Brussels, Antwerp, and even a day trip to Amsterdam is possible.
