This hotel does not seem like a chain hotel. It appears to have been recently (2018?) refurbished and everything is clean and functions. The bedrooms are nothing special - Premier Inn kind of feel. The breakfast has an excellent choice of meats, cheeses, fruits, rolls etc with the possibility of cook-to-order extras like fried eggs or sausages. The desk staff are very helpful and needless to say speak perfect English. The hotel is 8 minutes walk from the station and 3 minutes from a tram that takes you to the city centre. The hotel is very quiet at night and you have to walk for 20-30 minutes to get to the bar - bistro areas.

Absolutely lovely, boutique hotel around 15 mins walk from the city centre or a short tram ride. We received a warm welcome on arrival and were given information about the city centre, best places to visit, eat and a map / directions which was really helpful. The room was large and overlooked the quiet street. It was furnished to a high standard and the bed was very comfortable too. The bathroom was compact and again, of a high standard with all toiletries provided.
Breakfast was great, plenty of choice of cold or hot food (cooked to order) and the freshest squeezed orange juice :-)
Great hotel and excellent customer service; we had already had contact from the hotel when initially booking room and secure parking as well as an email a few days before we were due to arrive and they made every effort to make sure we got the most out of our visit.
We only stayed for one night on our way back to the ferry but would love to revisit for longer.

Nice little hotel that is a short tram ride away from city center. The room was spacious with a king sized bed. You can borrow a tram pass to take it to city center which is a quick 5-10 min ride. The fare will be added to your bill at the time of checkout.
Breakfast buffet which was 14 euros if I remember correctly. Great quality food along with some made to order items. Also a garage for an additional cost of 15 euros a night.

We spent five nights here and found that the hotel met all of our needs. Tram to city center was convenient, as were the tram tickets available at hotel front desk. Location was great for taking the train for day trips to other cities in Belgium. Wonderful and courteous customer service from every staff member. Delicious breakfast each morning including cooked to order items at no additional charge. There is no AC, and our visit was during an unseasonably warm week in July, but our room at the back of the hotel was both cooler and quieter. Would definitely recommend the Hotel Carlton!

Lovely hotel located near one of the main train stations in Ghent. We were able to check in a bit early and the manager provided great local recs — exceptional service and a great boutique hotel experience!
