I stayed in this tall building for business in late June 2018.

My apartment was on the 30th floor. It was very well appointed, with a large living space, kitchen area washing machine,, tumble dryer, dishwasher and all the necessary equipment to be able to be self-sufficient from a food perspective.

The building is equipped with a basic but spacious gym. In spite of the high floor, most of the windows could be opened using a ventilation mechanism, which was extremely pleasant given that it was quite warm.

The fact that it was an apartment, rather than a hotel room provided both advantages and disadvantages. I’ve already mentioned the good size and nice layout, and the decent furniture. However the level of cleanliness was not what I would expect from a hotel - looking on the ceiling and seeing the marks left by the air-conditioning units. Looking around the cooking area and noticing that some of the extractor fan sides were not clean. Of course, if this was my apartment I probably wouldn’t bat an eyelid. But if I’m paying for it I expect to be clean.

Breakfast was provided by delivery to my room. The curious part was that the delivery was made the night before. So, as I’m sure you will imagine bread that was fresh the evening before, is considerably less fresh the following day when you actually need to eat it.

Regarding breakfast there were a couple of other minor issues; on the first day, on account of my late arrival, my breakfast had been left in the kitchen area sitting on the work surface. The breakfast included three rolls, some cheese and some ham - the temperature in The Hague was somewhere in the 26°. The cheese melted the ham had been sweating all day. Not very clever, when you consider that approximately 30 cm to the left there was a fridge.

On the second day, I received approximately three times as much bread as the previous day, so much so that it came into bags. On the third day, there was so much food it required three boxes, a bottle of orange juice, yoghurt and some muesli. I had not requested a particular service or asked for a supplement.

I was very happy to receive such breakfast goods. But why the vast disparity in quantity from day to day? On the final day I ate in the restaurant for breakfast.

I also ate with the team that I was visiting in the rooftop restaurant on the 42nd floor. Our waiter was very pleasant, very knowledgeable and very happy to help us. The food we ate was of very good quality, not necessarily great; I believe that the red meat was overcooked for all of us who ordered. I ordered rare, and a colleague ordered medium rare and both of them were delivered practically well done. I do appreciate this may be a cultural thing, and that rare and medium rare do not mean the same thing the world over. The meat was good, so it was a shame to have to eat it somewhat overcooked.

With that said, the food was tasty, well presented and made a significant change from traditional formulaic hotel food. We could sense that the chef really had a pride in what he was serving.

All in all this is a useful alternative to hotel accommodation, especially as there aren’t very many in the central area of the Hague.

Attached some photos to give you a idea of what her apartment looks like on the 30th floor. The view was wonderful.

The view is marvelous. On a clear day, you can see Delft, Rotterdam, Leiden en the Second Maasvlakte. It is a big apartment suitable for more than two guests, but there is only one double bed, which sleeps very comfortable.
You can't go from the 39th floor to the Sky Bar and restaurant on the 40th and 42nd floor. So you have to go all the way down and up again in a different elevator. You can go down from the Sky Bar and restaurant to the 39th floor, though.

Room Tip: Room 773 on the 39th floor has a corner view on Rotterdam and the Second Maasvlakte.
