Imko (the chef) is wellknown for his fish cooking and is most probably one of the best fish chefs in the Netherlands. So we were looking forward to a nice dinner.

When we arrived in the restaurant we were promptly seated, drinks and a nice mackarel "gado gado" amuse was served. So far so good.

Then we got the menu's. Oops what happened here. There is a 4 course menu with 2 selections each for starter and 2nd course and only 1 main course. My partner did not like the main course, but there was no substitute. On the regular menu you could choose some oysters and 2 main courses. It was not possible to switch one of these courses to the menu. Mind you this is a 55 € menu ! So not cheap.

My partner decided to have 2 starters and a 2nd course from the menu instead of a main course, so actually 3 small dishes. No apologies or actual concern here from the staff. Big disapppointment !

Ok but let's hope the food is ok.

We started with some oysters, the Dutch ones, really good, but very expensive. Actually overpriced. The avocade / crab starter was really nice, the smoked tandoori salmon starter was also good. The scallops were completely overcooked and tough / a bit like chewing gum. This cannot happen in a top star fish restaurant. The large gamba was much too salty and tasted not nice as well. The main course "cod" was nice but very small.

Desserts were ok. We ended up paying 240€ for 2 people, 2 menu's, some oysters, 2 prosecco, a bottle of reasonably priced wine and some tea / coffee. That is really too much for this place, specially considering we only had 1 actual main course and 2 out of 6 dishes were not well prepared.

This is a large modern fish restaurant on a canal near the centre of town. In keeping with modern restaurant design the kitchen is in full view of the diners. The waiters are very professional and helpful. Prices are fairly high but the quality and presentation of the food is well worth the outlay. I chose the three-course menu (EUR 42.50) starting with a round of prepared king crab surrounded by a coulis of avocado, topped with a perfectly poached egg. For my main course I chose another starter, seared scallops with baby chicory. There were only two scallops on the plate which looked rather lonely but they were delicious. For dessert I chose a poached pear with hazelnut ice cream. The wine waiter chose us an excellent bottle of dry German wine. All in all, a beautifully prepared meal in a great restaurant.
