“Great Amsterdam location, refined high standard wining & dining”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 January 2012

Holding many prestigious awards and a Michelin star, lunch or dinner at la Rive will strike you with a gracious blend of classic comfort and innovative elegant culinary adventure.

In a delightful waterfront setting you will be surprised by Chef Rassin’s quest for personal umami and unique signature in taste and picture perfect presentation.

Rassin’s signature amuse of a simple cherry tomato lifts this little humble fruit to ecstatic heights, and proves Chef’s love for modern Mediterranean cuisine combined with playful attention.
He has the art of combining luxurious products with tasteful day-to-day ingredients of the highest quality.

All this accompanied with genuine and well-balanced hospitality, extraordinary wines from specific chosen regions in a warm and welcoming environment.

La Rive will definitely be a culinary highlight and memorable moment of your visit in Amsterdam.

“one of the best dining experiences ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 January 2012

On a rainy day in Amsterdam in December this was the perfect stop. Lunch at La Rive is a delightful experience. No dish failed - not one. The staff are attentive and really know their job. The dining room itself is beautiful. I utterly recommend this.

“DESERVING OF THREE STARS!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 December 2011

With one Michelin Star and every credential to merit two or three, this classical restaurant is by far the most elegant in the city. Making top marks with virtually every other European restaurant rating organization, it is difficult, based on my experience here, to fathom why Michelin has only awarded one star to La Rive, for nothing is amiss here. (I will add that Michelin seems to have "lost it" in other cases as well, so it really comes as no surprise that they are missing the boat in their judgments about La Rive).
The menu offers a limited, yet comprehensive selection of dishes to please any discriminating palate and the wine cellar is exceeded in its depth and scale only by the knowledge and attention provided by Ted Bunnik, the Master Sommelier.
Manager Ronald Opten is the consummate and active director of this dynamic and smoothly organized team. Even at the busiest moments of the evening, everything flowed smoothly under his careful and precise hand.
Facing the river, the main dining room is just large enough to create a warm, intimate atmosphere while not distracting from the business at hand, which is maximum comfort and attention while enjoying the remarkable, creative work of the Chef Roger Rassin.
A Chef’s Table in an adjoining room will seat 4-8 guests and The Wine Room provides a pleasant off-dining room experience for private parties up to 16 special guests.
During the two evenings I was there, nothing that I ordered came out of the kitchen that wasn’t an absolute ten on the scale for presentation, content quality and finish. Service was precise and at times, during the busiest hours of the evening, almost too intense. Remarkably, the same quality of attention and devotion was generously applied to each diner, solo or in a group.
La Rive delivers the often difficult to attain and retain quality of “just enough,” in terms of quantity of servings, degree of pomp applied in the serving of each dish, depth of individual service from the white tie and tails waiters and the timing of each course.
Certainly, there are those who will dine there and find it too pretentious, too stuffy, as so many contemporary “casual” diners seem to discover in starred restaurants. Some will be intimidated by the degree of personal attention, historically classic service and menu. But, to the discerning diner, who identifies with true ambiance and quality, I cannot think of a better or comparable restaurant anywhere in this part of the world.
A single, seven-course meal with matched wines was priced in the range of three hundred Euros, keeping more or less in line with similar properties. Certainly, you can spend less and it is easy to spend a great deal more, should you decide to benefit from the fine cellar.
