Good location. Clean & comfortable. Car parking nearby is a problem. Breakfast allright. Friendly hosts & staff. Good location. Walking distance from city center and main train station.
Rooms need some renovation.

This is a super little hotel in a quiet, perfect location. An easy tram ride from Amsterdam Centraal. Had the best! room. Super quiet, with a lovely entranceway with the bathroom & another door to close off the bedroom. So clean and tidy & well designed. Coffee/tea kettle+ provided, good wifi & tv! and comfy bed & pillow. Very nice staff. Excellent made to order breakfast. And, the house cat (Lobby only) Memo .. to make you feel like you're visiting someone's home.

It's not easy to find an affordable hotel in Amsterdam, but this one is & the Dutch staff were especially friendly & helpful. We loved talking music with the harp-playing chef at breakfast, as well as discussing bicycle culture with the desk clerk. The rooms are tiny & do come prepared for the almost vertical stairs going to the third floor, but the location is ideal - it's in the heart of the heart of Amsterdam. We'd happily stay at Hotel Freeland again.

Room tip: Rooms are all equal, but getting to the upper floors involves very steep stairs.

We stayed at Hotel Freeland for one night towards the end of July. As it was a 2 star hotel I wasn't really expecting much but when we arrived I was very impressed with the cleanliness and size of the room. We had 2 rooms booked (rooms 5 and 6) and both had their own bathroom.
Myself and my family had room 5 which had a small balcony overlooking the main street and was perfect for us. My friend stayed in room 6 which didn't have a balcony but had a nice view on to the garden area at the rear of the building.
All the staff who we encountered were incredibly helpful and friendly. i lost track the amount of times we had to ask the owner/manager directions to places and he was always happy to help. Someone who obviously is very proud of his city.
You seemed to be no more than a 45 minute walk from anywhere you could wish to visit (for us anyway).
For longer journeys, you could grab a tram or bus from just outside the door.
Would highly recommend.

Stayed at the Freeland during a busy July weekend. Staff were super friendly and very warm. The rooms were pretty bare-bones. There was no decoration and the furniture was a mismatch. We stayed in room #1, in the basement, which was dark and stuffy. We opened the window, when we could, but that invited in mosquitos. There was a fan that kept the air moving, but still it was very dark. Shower was comfortable -- good water pressure. The most difficult part was the toilet wasn't just down the hall -- it was up a steep flight of steps and was crazy-small. I'm not a heavy person, and I barely fit. I think this would be a really difficult set up for anyone who has any sort of mobility issues. I'm in good shape and walked up the stairs sideways with both hands on the railing. This was fine during the day, but at night it was a bit of a liability: Anyone over 50 with bad knees would be in trouble. Coffee and biscuits were free. Breakfast was offered, but we didn't take them up on it. Again it was in the dank basement, and we found nice places to eat nearby that were on the canal with a pretty view. The area was excellent -- close to the tram, busy and bustling area with lots of restaurants and cafes, near museums and the park. The price was high for the condition of the room -- $150. They should take some of that money and use it to decorate the room. Oh, and they also had a delightful kitty, Nemo, who occasionally visited us.

Room tip: Don't take a basement room -- too far away from the toilet and no good air circulation
