It's rare to find a hotel that feels welcoming, intimate, luxurious, fun AND exciting! The Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht feels like all of these things... and MORE! It's an amazing hotel based on "Alice in Wonderland" by designer extraordinaire Marcel Wanders. The decor is modern, colorful, playful and full of fantastical elements that make you feel like you're in another world. There's always something beautiful that catches your eye right around the corner.
What truly makes it our new favorite hotel is the consistently incredible customer service we received all weekend (we stayed Thur-Sun). If I could live there, I would. Ha! From the moment we got there, Cesar made sure to start my birthday weekend off right!!! He greeted us with champagne for me, beer for my husband and water for my son, then upgraded our room to canal view. We actually ended up in a suite instead after a tour of both rooms, which was spectacular and worth every extra penny!!! He then took care of our car, helped us make dinner reservations at the Bluespoon Restaurant in the hotel (it's DIVINE!) and made sure our luggage was brought up to our room so we could start relaxing right away. Cesar's customer service was truly exceptional...and it stayed that way for the next three days!!!
He recommended that we go explore the Jordaan and traced a route on our map that had me falling in love with the city....It's rare to find a hotel that feels welcoming, intimate, luxurious, fun AND exciting! He recommended that we go explore the Jordaan and traced a route on our map that had me falling in love with the city. It's just as beautiful at night as it is during the day. Cesar also made sure to let us know that we could have breakfast in our room at no extra cost so we could have breakfast in bed. He made sure we got treats and left us a handwritten note and cute little souvenir in our room before we said our goodbyes. And did I mention that the hotel serves you wine at 5pm everyday?? He caught us in the hall coming back from touring the town around that time, and made sure we got our wine! Those were just a few of the ways he made us feel so taken care of - I'd be writing pages if I listed them all! He's a true gem.
Livia was another standout!! She recommended an amazing vegan burger place (Vegan Junk Food Bar) - which became my son's favorite meal of the weekend. He's not vegan and he LOVES food, so that's saying something. Even my husband raved about it. On our last night at the Andaz, she gave us a private tour of the hotel, showing us gorgeous spaces we didn't know were even there, and telling us about the inspiration and stories behind the design. The garden, the meeting spaces, the hallway art, the wallpaper seen via the elevator... every little detail has a story behind it. The Delft Room...so beautiful! This tour was a highlight for sure!
I also have to mention Sabrina, our waitress at the Bluespoon. She was so helpful, engaging, warm and attentive. Her recommendations made our dinner so much better!! She even made sure our leftovers stayed warm and offered to have them taken to the room. Sabrina was super sweet and made sure we were well taken care of the whole time.
My husband and I have traveled the world. We've also lived in travel destinations like Florida, Hawaii, California - places with amazing hotels and resorts. No other hotel, resort, or B&B has ever made us feel like a part of the city so quickly. We fell in love with Amsterdam on this trip, but it would never have happened without falling in love with the Andaz as well. To us, they are one and the same, and we won't be staying anywhere else on our future visits. Not only that, but we're also excited to see what other Andaz collection hotels have to offer in other locations. If they're anything like this one, they have loyal guests for life!
Thank you, Cesar, Livia, Sabrina and the Andaz Amsterdam team for making our stay so truly unforgettable!!! See you next time!
Tips: You don't have to wear a mask in the hotel or anywhere in Amsterdam, with the exception of public transportation. The rooms were super clean, gorgeously decorated and quiet. Eat at the Bluespoon at least once, and hit up the hotel bar. The olives they give you are little bites of heaven. And explore the hotel! It's meant to be seen and appreciated!
