Review of Linden Hotel
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 Oct 2024
Just checked out after a 5-night stay. Here are my thoughts…
Location: we always stay at the Jordaan in the 3x that we’ve been to Amsterdam. The Linden Hotel is at the northwest end of the Jordaan so a bit of a walk to the 9Streets area and the main canals. It is just two blocks away from the main street though with two grocery chains and good restaurants.
Places to eat: Linden is right across the street from Moods Café which has great breakfast options (we had smoked salmon eggs Benedict and avocado eggs Benedict). About a 5-minute walk to Saint-Jean, a very famous bakery, lineups every morning, which also happens to be vegan. We also ate at Roux, a French restaurant , and La Fiorita, an Italian restaurant, both on the main street, both very good.
Family room: had 4 beds pushed together to make 2 queens. Good for 4. The entire hotel already had heat on, temp couldn’t be controlled from our room, so we kept our windows open, otherwise it got stuffy. The bathroom was not fun. As others said, it was really small. My knees bumped up against the shower stall when on the toilet (and I’m only 5’3). The shower stall was a bit claustrophobic, you can’t really bend if you wanted to soap your lower legs.
Hotel amenities: Mobility was a bit of a challenge. I was travelling with my 80-year old mum. I knew they had a small lift but didn’t realize it didn’t stop at every floor. They had pastries in the afternoon and a water dispenser in the lobby with mint and lemon. They also have a decent coffee machine in the basement that brewed various types of coffee free for guests. They have a fridge and microwave in the basement common area. Wifi was super spotty. Prepare to use your own data.
Staff was okay. I read the effusive praises from the other reviewers so had really high expectations. They were okay. No one was rude. So good enough for me.
Date of stay: October 2024
Room Tip: Family room is the biggest but the one on the 2nd floor is not accessible by lift

Such a nice little hotel, on a beautiful corner of Amsterdam’s Jordaan neighborhood. Check in was a breeze. After spending several nights in a nearby short-tern rental, we dropped off our bags then wandered while the wonderfully friendly staff prepared our room earlier than promised. Each time we entered the lobby we received a friendly greeting, and the few requests we had were fulfilled quickly. The 24 hour coffee service was appreciated, and the tables in that room were great for our rainy day picnic dinner. The room was spotless, comfortable, and, by US standards, small, but this is a reasonably priced locally owned hotel, not one owned by some faceless conglomerate, so it was the perfect size!
Thanks so much to the staff for everything, including the lovely gift bag at check-out. When we return to Amsterdam, the Hotel Linden will be our home.

Room tip: At least half the rooms have a canal view, and several have windows on three sides. Be sure to request when booking.

The hotel is a great location. It is close to public transportation and many bars/ restaurants. However, the beds are not the most comfortable. The pillows could use some improvement, as well. The staff was very accommodating, knowledgeable and kind. I highly suggest this as a stay. Be aware that the steps can be quite small. Overall, a mostly positive experience with room for improvement.

This hotel is a little gem in a fantastic location. We knew that the rooms were advertised as "tiny", and this is not an understatement. They are truly tiny, so be prepared to be creative with luggage, etc. We travelled as a couple with 2 large suitcases, which we were able to open & place under the bed, allowing us easy access & storage space - because there really was nowhere else to put them! The location is wonderfully calm, but very near many restaurants& shops, and within walking distance to Anne Frank House, canal cruises & Dam Square. Our room was on the 4th floor, so we had to navigate the steep stairs, but this was expected in an old building. The true standouts at this hotel are its staff. The staff were always pleasant & ready to help out. There are daily pastries, a great coffee machine, and a nice little bag of treats upon check out. Wonderful experience!

This quaint little boutique hotel stole my heart from the moment I walked it. Right next to one of the smaller canals, it is very well located, with about a 15 minute walk to the centre with all the shops and restaurants.

The staff are very warm and welcoming, special mention to Roxanne. My room (44) was cozy and had a lovely view. Bathroom was cute and the room was spacious enough for one person. Could easily do two comfortably. The stairs are steep but you’ll get the hang of it. The areas is also peaceful / quiet at night, so no disturbances.

There is free tea/coffee in the basement at all times which was a really nice touch. This will certainly be my Amsterdam base and I will be back!!
