The Posthoorn was the perfect place for my grown son and I to stay for three nights. I had a quiet room out the back, and my son's room faced the quiet one-lane street along the canal. Our rooms were comfortable and our host Francois was very friendly and attentive. After I forgot an item in my room he kindly shipped it to my next destination in Switzerland. I don't think I would have had such great service in a bigger hotel.
Francois also marked our map for wonderful nearby restaurants.
The Posthoorn is an easy 15-20 minute walk from the translation, even if you are pulling luggage, and yet you are off the beaten track. I would choose this hotel again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Room out the back is probably the quietest

Very clean, large comfortable room with sofa, attentive host, walking distance of most attractions.....easy 8 minute stroll to Ann Frank's House (book on line as far ahead as possible as afternoon queues are extremely long).........Van Gogh Museum 30 minute walk. Canal side, many cafes, restaurants etc nearby. Quiet location. Far enough away from busy city centre but close enough to walk to should you wish. Very ample fresh continental breakfast brought to room......enough for a lunchtime sandwich too!
Don't book taxi from airport until you have spoken to host Francois as he may be able to get you a better deal. Secure area, secure premises.

Room Tip: Well maintained old merchant's house. Hosts live in upper floors, guests occupy three rooms on...

This was our second time at the Posthoorn having stayed here a couple of years ago. Coming back was like coming home. It is a short walk from the train station and in a wonderful, calm part of town. It is around the block from wonderful restaurants (Bleu Cafe, Prego), down the block from the Anne Frank house, and our Hidden Church Room (partially underground, having once connected through a secret passage to the Church across the way) faced the canal. Francois is a wonderful wonderful host who is extremely helpful with maps and suggestions about where to go. This time we took a trip to Utrecht (per his suggestion) which was a beautiful, quaint town. Breakfast is simple but good (fresh variety of breads, croissants, cheese, fruit, conducts, yogurt), and is brought to you each morning. Having breakfast in the room allows you to get out quickly in a place where there is so much to see and do. Location is great not just because it is close to everything, but also because it feels like you are a local in a nice neighborhood--not a foreigner in a touristy area. We love Amsterdam, and there is no question that when we return, we will stay again at the Posthoorn.

Good value, and the bed was very comfortable too.

THE POSTHOORN is a great place in the Jordaan neighbourhood near the center of Amsterdam. The location is magnificent.
Approximately 10-15 minutes walk to the railway station, also 10-15 minutes walk to the central Dam Square, 8-10 minutes to the house of Anne Frank and to the trendy shopping area "Nine Streets."
Also I would like to note a magnificent and very authentic view from this mini hotel.

Very tasty breakfast. Special thanks to Francois for freshly baked bread and croissants and freshly squeezed juice for breakfast.
In the evening this place is very quiet and you can get a good night's sleep. Especially I note that all rooms have very comfortable beds.
We stayed in two rooms: 4 nights in "Hidden Church Room" room and 4 nights in "Patio Room".
Everywhere was very clean, shower rooms are in very good condition, a coffee machine in the rooms. In all rooms fast Wi-Fi.

"Hidden Church Room" - a place quite comfortable for three people.
In addition, with its very interesting history from the 17th century (see at the Posthoorn website),
which certainly adds to it authenticity.
"Patio Room" - a more spacious place with a patio. Very convenient and spacious for three people.

Francois is very welcoming, friendly and careful host.
He recommended restaurants, shops, tourist routes.
He also advised how it is more convenient to get somewhere,
answered all our questions, and if he didn't know something, then he specially found out about everything and then explained to us.

We highly recommend this place to everyone and will be happy to come back here next time.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Housed within the fine walls of a listed historical 17th century canal house on one of Amsterdam's most picturesque canals in the heart of the city - the Prinsengracht - part of the UNESCO World Heritage, The Posthoorn Bed and Breakfast features three charming rooms which offer guests four-star luxury whilst staying in the Jordaan district. The Canal View Room, Patio Room and Hidden Church Room ooze opulent and stylish character within the pleasant atmosphere of this contemporary bed and breakfast flawlessly disguised in the old-fashioned exterior of this canal house. The history behind this interesting building dates back to 1578, during which time Catholics were refused to visit their churches so several hidden churches were built in private houses. Around 1650, one was built in the basement of what stands as The Posthoon today and if you wish the owner will be pleased to tell you the history of the house. The elegant decor of The Posthoorn is boasted throughout each and every room. The livingspaces feature a flat-screen cable TV, en-suite bathroom with under-floor heating, comfortable sofas, free wireless internet. In each room you will find a kitchenette including coffee maker, microwave and refrigerator complete with white wine, beer, orange juice, milk and mineral water. Full continental breakfast including freshly baked bread and croissants is served to guests in their room each morning. Staff aim to make guests' stay at the Posthoorn memorable. ... more   less
