Francois was a very generous host: With assistance, with recommendations, and breakfast with fresh bread every day was a great way to wake up. We'd always end up with a extra croissant or yogurt to put in our bag for later. The room was immaculate every day, very romantic, and we loved the location. We were in Amsterdam for King's Day, and as it turned out, we were in the center of all the activity. Still, it wasn't too much to sleep through, or take breaks from, as our room in the back of the house was quiet. If you'd like to stay in one of the most romantic, authentic parts of the city, and be away from the tourist center, this is a great spot for you. And be sure to walk at night...you may be the only ones on the canal!

Great location but Taxis did not wanted to bring us to the Hotel because was 15 min walk. Ok to do but we had our 75 yr old mom and her suitcases :( not easy walk.
Once there our room was in the basement - clean and beds very comfortable but small and crampy for 3 adults and our luggage. The owner makes the place- Francois is full of attencions even had fresh roses in the room for us and got a Taxi to take us back to the train station. Try to book early and get one of the patio rooms. Wifi didn't work in room.

Room Tip: The website has the rooms photos - our room the church basement has a great view to the canal. Good...

Stayed in Amsterdam for two nights following a river cruise. Though the weather in Amsterdam was not the best, the Posthoorn still allowed for us to say we had a wonderful time in Amsterdam. The location was ideal, the host was so gracious, and the breakfast was top shelf. Definitely will return.....hopefully to more sun.

Room Tip: Hidden church room is very tiny, but charming and with a view of a canal.

What a treat. All the reviews are absolutely true. My husband and I stayed at The Posthoorn for 5 nights in early June. The room was perfect, the breakfast delicious and the location was ideal for exploring Amsterdam. We also enjoyed all the restaurants that our host suggested we visit. He was lovely and helpful and had only good advise for us! Highly recommend The Posthoorn!

I picked The Posthoorn because of the wonderful reviews on TripAdvisor and I was not disappointed. Everything that has been written is true! I was a bit nervous about reserving a room in a foreign country without leaving some sort of deposit or credit card to guarantee the room, but I didn't have to worry. The owner,Francois, was a most charming and trustworthy host. We were the ones that brought up payment on the last night of our stay! The walking directions he provided from Centraal Station were very clear and it s not too far. I would say that pulling a suitcase through the cobblestone streets was a bit cumbersome, especially after a 9 hour/all night flight. We decided to take a taxi when we left because it was just easier!!

Upon our arrival, we were provided with a map and Francois was willing to help us with anything such as directions, reservations, and even calling a taxi company for us. The location is fantastic! We were right down the block from the Anne Frank House, the Pancake Bakery, a canal cruise, the cheese museum and more! I don't think anyone has mentioned that there is a quaint, local pub right on the corner and across the canal is one of the oldest pubs in Amsterdam with so much authenticity and charm...it was wonderful!

We stayed in the Hidden Church Room and it is absolutely true that you cannot be too tall to stay in that room, as the ceiling is very low. The marble flooring and brick are original and protected, so they cannot be changed or updated. The room itself was comfortable, but due to the laws for a historic sight, you have to be prepared that this is not a modern or luxurious room. We didn't mind because it felt like staying in a piece of history! The little kitchenette had a coffee maker and refrigerator that were very convenient. The bathroom was adequate although there was not a lot of shelving space for toiletries and the shower stall leaked. There were only a few towels, but all we had to do was ask for more. But I didn't mind...I wasn't in Amsterdam for the lodging! The breakfasts were great and just right to start out before our busy days. A few mornings, we had very early plans, so Francois left some food in the kitchenette for us, so we wouldn't have to go without!

I really enjoyed our stay at the Posthoorn and would very much recommend it as long as you are ready for a small B&B experience. If your preference is usually along the lines of a large or chain hotel, this is not the experience for you. If you can be open to an authentic, charming experience then this is the place for you!

Room Tip: The Hidden Church room is completely authentic, but the other rooms may be a bit more updated. You...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Housed within the fine walls of a listed historical 17th century canal house on one of Amsterdam's most picturesque canals in the heart of the city - the Prinsengracht - part of the UNESCO World Heritage, The Posthoorn Bed and Breakfast features three charming rooms which offer guests four-star luxury whilst staying in the Jordaan district. The Canal View Room, Patio Room and Hidden Church Room ooze opulent and stylish character within the pleasant atmosphere of this contemporary bed and breakfast flawlessly disguised in the old-fashioned exterior of this canal house. The history behind this interesting building dates back to 1578, during which time Catholics were refused to visit their churches so several hidden churches were built in private houses. Around 1650, one was built in the basement of what stands as The Posthoon today and if you wish the owner will be pleased to tell you the history of the house. The elegant decor of The Posthoorn is boasted throughout each and every room. The livingspaces feature a flat-screen cable TV, en-suite bathroom with under-floor heating, comfortable sofas, free wireless internet. In each room you will find a kitchenette including coffee maker, microwave and refrigerator complete with white wine, beer, orange juice, milk and mineral water. Full continental breakfast including freshly baked bread and croissants is served to guests in their room each morning. Staff aim to make guests' stay at the Posthoorn memorable. ... more   less
