We stumbled across Cafe Toussaint one Saturday in search of a restaurant that wasn't fully booked. It's located in Bosboom Toussaintstraat in the Overtoom area of the city, just off Bilderdijkstraat.

It is a small restaurant, but we were able to acquire a nice table at the front of the cafe. We chose a series of tapas dishes, including bitterballen, aubergine, scallop, prawns amongst others and all were pretty good. My dessert of lemon meringue pie was OK but not as enjoyable as the tapas dishes.

There was not a big choice of wine but our bottle of Viognier from Languedoc was very good indeed.

Service was friendly and helpful throughout and the cost of €120 for three was reasonable as well.

We were staying opposite this café and went for lunch. The service was excellent, atmosphere was lovely and the food was delicious (especially the tomato soup which came with bread and mozarella). Cannot fault this café!

We got in quite late after our flight so the kitchen was already closed but we did get to try some tapas and they were both delicious, especially the falafel.

The service was quick and friendly, there was a good mix of tourists and locals and while it's close to the centre you are away from the madness around Dam Square.

We also tried their breakfast and the granola topped with orange jam was amazing.

Definitely go here if you want a less crazy experience than the more touristy spots.

Discovered while searching for another restaurant. We started with cocktails (much needed after a long journey), excellent! Their menu is a variety of tapas (appetizer portions). Our friends weren't familiar with this, so I ordered up a variety of items to sample. Every dish was amazing!

When our server asked if everything was 'OK'; I replied, 'No, everything is not OK...everything is WOW!!!'

We all agreed, from start to finish...this was the best meal of our trip!!
