“Great place for a couple!!”
Reviewed 25 December 2011

My husband and I stayed in the studio downstairs for 4 nights last november and it was a very good experience. Christel was there to welcome us when we arrived and gently gave us the necessary information to start walking around Amsterdam. She's really a wonderful host!!

We stayed in the studio apartment downs stairs for two nights. It provided everything we needed including a kitchenette. Even though breakfast wasn't supplied and only a bottle of wine, soft drinks and fresh fruit were listed on their website as included the kitchenette was stocked with a few extras like eggs, salad dressing, nutella etc. I am assuming these were left by previous guests as they were half used. No soft drink was provided but this was not noticed until we left and was of no consequence as we don't drink it. It was lovely to have scrambled eggs in the morning. When we arrived we were met with a note from Christel to call her as I had foolishly forgotten to give her our arrival time, the hosts don't live on the premises so this is important to keep in mind if you book. Hans met us within 5 mins and let us in and Christel arrived only 20 mins after which gave us time to drop off all our belongings in the apartment. She invited us up stairs to the b&b room for a chat and a drink. She is the perfect person for this occupation, lively (even while sick) friendly, talkative and informative. She made our stay very welcoming. The only suggestion I have for the owners, and why I didn't give an excellent rating, is that the studio needs new linen and a little spring clean is necessary. Otherwise our stay was great!

We stayed here for 3 nights on a bed and breakfast basis. The accommodation is elegant and spotless, on a very quiet street within a few minutes walk from the city centre. It is also conveniently situated for the train station.
Christel the landlady was fantastic and prepared us a delicious breakfast every morning as well as providing information on where to go and what to do. At other times we had the whole apartment to ourselves.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this accommodation although the stairs are quiet steep and might not be suitable for elderly people. We can also recommend ’t Loosje and De Bekeerde Suster both on the adjoining Nieuwmarkt as good places to drink.

Amsterdam at Home was the perfect place to stay for my 4 night/5 day birthday trip to Amsterdam. The house is absolutely beautiful. If only I could have taken the windows home with me! Christel was very helpful and friendly, and she prepared us a veggie-friendly breakfast with fresh fruit juice each morning which kept us energised until afternoon. Any reservations we had regarding how close the B&B was to the hustle and bustle of the Red Light District were quickly dissolved. The house is on a very quiet residential street and we found the location to be perfect for exploring the city, without being too far from good restaurants, cafes and bars. The nearby Cafe Stevens was our favourite brown cafe, with a great staff, wonderful atmosphere and reasonable prices. We ended up visiting it several times at the end of a long day of walking. A great plus at the B&B was the exclusive use of the dining area/ main room in addition to the lovely spacious bedroom. It was wonderful to be able to go back and have a little rest without having to be holed up in a bedroom. The 'honor bar' in this main room was amazing, stocked with unbelievably reasonably priced beer, wine and spirits. We just kept track of what we drank and paid up on our last day. Christel offered bicycle rentals, but we opted for walking the whole time. As we had a late flight back to London, we asked if we could leave our bags on the last day so we could explore without dragging our luggage all over. This was no problem at all. All in all, it was a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: Remember that the B&B room comes with the exclusive use of the main 1st floor room with its own...

We have just returned (October, 2011) from our second stay at this great bed and breakfast. Once again, we were two couples who rented both of the available flats. The accommodations are comfortable, and Christel, the innkeeper, is amazing! We love the location, out of the normal tourist route and near enough to walk everywhere. Christel cooks a delicious breakfast and, best of all, she shares what is happening and recommends where we go. Her husband Hans will pick you up and deliver you to the airport. The B and B is virtually around the corner from great restaurants (Amsterdam's Chinatown is a few blocks away) and several not-to-be missed museums. Have a great stay!

Room Tip: We stayed upstairs, our friends downstairs with the kitchen/living room in between.
