Die Hummer & Austernbar ist eines der fuhrenden Restaurants an der Bahnhofstrasse Zurich und eine sehr bekannte und beliebte Institution in kulinarischen Kreisen. Die Hummerbar wurde 1935 eroffnet und ist sehr traditionell und doch innovativ in der Zubereitung von Hummern, Austern und Meeresfruchten aller Art. Bis heute hat das Gourmet Restaurant in Zurich die Originaldekoration bewahrt. Fotos von beruhmten Filmstars und Politikern, welche bereits Gaste waren, hangen an den Wanden. Die Hummerbar bietet klassische franzosische Gourmet Kuche an, kombiniert mit einem mediterranen Akzent. Sie konnen in einem eleganten Ambiente frische Hummer oder Austern geniessen und werden stets mit abwechslungsreichen und innovativen Gerichten uberrascht.

There are restaurants one can visit every day. Others every week, month or year. However, beyond that there are a select few places, only appropriate for very special occasions. The „Hummern- und Austernbar“ in Zurich is one of those places. Located within walking distance of Zurich main station, it specializes in lobsters and oysters (as the name indicates), while offering a variety of other dishes.
The prices reflect not only the quality of the food, but also the skill set of the whole staff.
Upon entering, the slightly anachronistic interior will tell you what to expect in terms of service and dedication to detail. Modernity has been set aside in favour of quality. But don‘t be alarmed. The waiters are beyond friendly and assist you in every way possible.
As for the food, expect everything to be of the highest quality possible. However, you should focus on their specialties. The lobster dishes are first class, in any form offered. And if you happen to have some spare change, why not try out the caviar as a starter.
If you are looking for something extraordinary, this is definitely the place to go.

Traditional restaurant - ok, fine. Very old school and a bit shabby - also ok if only the food were better. We got some herb butter after we had ordered and then waited some 15 minutes before someone remembered to bring us the bread. Upside: by then the butter was soft enough for spreading. The tuna tatar was good, however with almost 30 CHF rather on the expensive side, no trace of wakame in the wakame salad. The waiter was nice enough however he did not really understand us and despite some back and forth during the ordering process he still brought the wrong drinks /dishes twice. The Bouillabaisse was really poor and rather oily. An altogether expensive and disappointing dinner.

We visit this restaurant every time when we are in Zürich and we will do that again. So good sea food and beef was also too good. Service is first class. Athmosphere is really unique. Something old and glory but with something modern. Live lobsters in tank is always nice sight in lobster bar. Wine list is nice. Restaurant is truly recommendable.

Went there with my parents
Had the Sea bass, monk fish and lobster bisque.
The servings are generous and the service is impeccable, we were waited by Mr.Singh Mann.

It is a very classical restaurant. It has a very pure flavor style cuisine. I would have liked it to be a little less classical and more experimental. May be decomposing flavors and such.. The restaurant inside is very romantic, and the music played is very suiting. Specially like the artwork of lobsters and oysters!!Nice experience overall.

We are open all day long and you can, also enjoy a classic lobster with Champagne sauce in the afternoon or just enjoy a nice glass of wine at the bar. (exception Sunday, then we open at 5:30pm.)
