Fontenay appears to be the place distant locals come to have a drink after work and before returning to their homes. I say "distant" as they all seemed to drive off after a couple of hours imbibing.
I had a pretty appaling Alsace wine as an aperitif and then steak tartare with frites, toast and salad.
The tartare required seasoning but was pleasant enough once Tabasco was added. The frites were over cooked yet saggy, I can't explain any more. Perhaps the wrong potatoes or if frozen, wrong oil temperature. I ate most of them tho.
Salad was genuinely average. Usual mix of grated carrot, tinned sweet corn and chopped lettuce with runny shop type dressing.
Service was adequate. No smile but a willingness once engaged in conversation. They had no problem allowing me to charge the phone upon which I am now writing this review.
Will I return? No.
Would I advise others to steer clear? No.
