We enjoyed our stay at the Alphubel in Zermatt during the Christmas/New Year's holiday. A bit dated yet cozy and well-situated, the Alphubel provided us with a spacious room, good breakfast, and very close proximity to the center of Zermatt.
The hotel is a very easy walk from the Bahnhof in town and the train up to Gornergrat. Upon arrival, the reception was empty and we waited some minutes until the owner arrived. He was moderately friendly and provided us access to our room. The rooms are a bit dated, with classic Swiss furnishings from the 70's. However they are clean and well-kept. There is an elevator.
Breakfast is a nice variety of Swiss meats, cheeses, jams, eggs, and various breads. For Swiss standards, the bread was okay and the coffee needs improvement. Otherwise the dining room is large, comfortable, and charming.
We were pleased with the value we paid for this hotel, the large comfortable room, and the close proximity to the town center.More
