Description: As an alpine restaurant, Blatten exists since the beginnings of tourism in Zermatt and it has kept its traditional appearance. Initially, around 1850, it was a little teahouse run by the family. Since the early 1950s, the mother Ludowika has been the hostess of the place for decades. The Taugwalder family has a tradition of both gastronomy and mountain climbing. Indeed, Leander himself met his wife Simone on the top of the Matherhorn. Since more than 30 years, we, Leander and Simone, run this place with passion. The young generation, our daughter Sarah with her husband Hans, assist us actively. - Restaurant on two levels - First floor seats up to 43, second floor 47 - Terrace with 140 seats - Winter season from December to April - Summer season from June to October - Warm kitchen every day from 11:30am to 5pm - House owned organic herb garden - On the path: Ricola herb garden and Gornergorge (during summer season) - During winter season every Wednesday Fondue evenings. Reservations necessary.

A beautiful spot in the tiny old village Blatten, a little walk up from Zermatt. Very friendly service and great views.

My husband and I came across this place after ending a hike around the gorge in Zermatt.
Wow what a find. I must confess the reason we went there was to have a glass is wine. The restaurant was closed as it was pass 5. However we spoke to the staff and they said their mushroom soup is famous.
They prepared it for us and it was the best mushroom soup we have ever had. What an experience. The restaurant is famous for its lamb dish. However our schedule did not allow us to go back there as we were in Zermatt for only three nights.
It was a great find for us and a great memory. Thank you for being such great hosts.

I have been many time at this restaurant and never been disappointed. It can be quite crowded, being easily reachable by ski, but it deserve waiting a little. I like to come for a late lunch, after an intensive day of ski, leaving time after a "fondue" just to reach the valley. The food indeed is quite heavy and best with a good wine so far requiring some rest afterward.

We were making a day hike up valley from Zermatt and unexpectedly came upon this charming restaurant located right on the path. After returning from the gorge, we stopped by at this cozy locale and enjoyed a very pleasant light lunch of delicious cream of mushroom and pumpkin soups. The service was friendly and efficient. It was one of those occasions that stays very pleasantly in your memory.

Great food, service, and view! Its a family owned restaurant (like most of the restaurants in Zermatt) so service is usually really good.

During peak periods make sure to book in advance the terrace as it gets really busy as its the closest restaurant to the ski slopes.

As we ate here at the end of September, they had the autumn specials in the menu which were absolutely delicious.
