One of the most moving sculptures I have ever seen. The dying lion sculpture evokes deep feelings as you behold it across the waters of a small pond. You can almost feel the dying labours of this magnificent animal, still stately regal even in its death throes. Representing Swiss Soldiers who died in the French Revolution while trying to protect the Palace of Tuileries. A Must See!

The Lion of Lucerne known also as the Lion Monument is a memorial located in Lucerne, Switzerland to commemorate the Swiss Guards who lost their lives in 1792 during the French Revolution. Around 600 swiss guards were killed during the fight. The dying lion is shown stuck by a spear & is dedicated to the loyalty & bravery of swiss soldiers.
This place worth a visit if you are in Lucerne. It’s easy to walk upto The Lion of Lucerne.

Ignore the selfie sticks and hoards of tourists and you find yourself in a quiet corner smack in the middle of Luzern. A nice place to commemorate the sacrifices made by the Swiss.
Entrance is free.

This is a short walk from anywhere. It’s totally free. We went in the evening and were the only ones there. Lots of great shops and pubs around so makes a nice walk then grab a glass of wine.

The monument is memorializing swiss soldiers who were killed in the French Revolution. It doesn't take long to visit and is pretty close to the downtown, so it's woth a visit because it's so easy to reach.
