I don't know if the chef from there has ever tasted good food before...I have ordered the tomato, avocado salad with shrimps as starter and tuna with rice. And it was just terrible.

Basel friends are devoted to this place. In a central location, it’s intimate and stylish in an understated way. On my first visit, I was not blown away by the food, but I’d gladly give it another try.

The food is always great! Nice location with a good atmosphere. Good menu and specials. Just can go wrong with it. The best in town.

Polite attentive professional staff. Atmospher was amazing as you seat close together which for us in a foreign country was fabulous because we soon made friends and enjoyed the atmosphere. It was Friday night and the restaurant was truly buzzing. The food was amazing and we enjoyed the freshest pasta ever. Recommend to nook but we were lucky eating early in the evening to get a space

It was our first night in Basel and stumbled across this small and cosy Italian resto on a relatively quieter street in the City Centre. We walked in and was soon shown a table with paper "table cloth". Nobody came to serve us immediately but we were not too annoyed cos it was really busy ( after 8:30pm) and the two waiters were like busy bees buzzing here & there and everywhere, tending to all the tables be the patrons enjoying a beer or a meal.
Soon one pleasant waiter gave us a wink and then a mo later showed us the menu. It was all in Italian and they do not have an English menu. We guessed from the words that make sense to us and soon this jolly waiter returned to take our order. He is French but speaks very good English so it was smooth sailing placing our orders.
The gazpacho arrived in a deep bowl with croutons on top that was very dense, healthy and refreshing. The parma ham with melon was super fresh, melon ripe, very sweet and juicy and paper thin sliced ham was a generous serving and best was it was not too salty. The mozzarella and sliced tomatoes was just ok cos cheese was too stiff and rather bland, although the olive oil drizzled atop helped to moisten it.
We wanted fish but the only choice was tuna steak so we chose pasta instead. We had porcini tagliatelle that was the best amongst the three---al dente and aromatic with the edges of the sliced mushroom slightly charred that added to the bite. The spaghetti carbonara was al dente and creamy, bacon finely diced so it was not coarse. The last pasta was spicy fresh tomato spaghetti with fresh shrimps and it was very well done although it could do with less oil and more chilli. Shrimps were plump and could do with a bit more marinade so it would be more toothsome. All was a very good portion and all arrived piping hot.
The bread basket only had one variety but the bread was homemade and just melted in your mouth with or without the olive oil drizzled on.
The draught beer was good and the tiramisu plus regular coffee were also good. When we asked for the bill, the waiter who looks like Chris Martin in Coldplay came over and did the calculation on the paper table cloth and he does not need a calculator (LOL), so that explains the paper covering the table cos they total the bill to every table this unique way. This small practice sure adds to the charm of this unpretentious resto.
A very cheerful, friendly, relaxed, clean and nice eatery to go for some honest Italian food. But definitely not a quiet place for a romantic date :)
We don't speak Swiss but the two waiters speak English well. They came over and cracked jokes and soon we're engaged in some pleasant small talk. They are super funny and they have indeed helped to make the satisfying meal a most heartwarming experience.
Not the most economical dinner for three but what do u expect when even a McDonald's set meal costs u 8+ euro?
