This was our first visit to La Cuccagna and I hope it won't be our last! I thoroughly recommend everything about the agriturismo, as well as about a trip to this part of Italy. Sarah and Sal could not have been more welcoming or helpful and Sarah's detailed emails and patience with our family logistics during the booking process were fantastic. (Flying Stansted to Perugia was definitely a good idea, despite the traffic getting to Stansted!) As others have noted, both Sarah and Sal were wonderfully helpful and knowledgeable guides to the area, with information about places to visit, where to park, restaurants - and Sal even told us where we could buy medieval-style door hinges for a Wendy house my husband was building at home!
La Cuccagna itself is in an ideal location - just 30 mins from Gubbio and a touch more to Perugia, 45 mins to Assisi(but we did drive very cautiously on terrifying Italian roads!) The scenery is glorious, and, thanks to Sarah and Sal's eco-friendly approach, I've never seen so many stunning butterflies and bees as I did in their gardens. The views from the pool are even more amazing than in the photos!
We had a the smaller self-catering apartment, La Stalletta, for my husband and I, and a twin room in the B&B for our two children (aged19 and 22). All the rooms were immaculate, with linen changed every 3-5 days. The combination of self-catering and B&B was perfect for us: delicious breakfasts with all the other guests, and the chance to eat on our own at lunch or in the evenings, watching the achingly beautiful sunsets over this perfect green valley.
Sarah and Sal also offer a fantastic pizza evening, with Sal making the pizzas in the Southern Italian style in a wood oven: superb and unusual toppings, delicious side-dishes and huge quantities. Do book this if you have the chance! We also enjoyed Sal's pasta-making workshop, and learnt a huge amount in a very relaxed atmosphere - and then discovered that Sarah and Sal had planned a surprise dinner party for us that night, with my Italian friends who drove all the way from Rome to join us, having been warmly welcomed by Sarah when they telephoned that morning, Thank you, Sarah and Sal and Rosa, for making that reunion so special for all of us.
All in all, a magical holiday in an outstandingly beautiful part of Italy. There are so many stunning villages to discover, full of amazing art treasures - and we became used to being the only ones in the museums, or almost! (If you like Etruscan art, don't miss the tombs near Perugia- the Hypogeum: deserted and so interesting and atmospheric.) Forget the queues and crowds of Tuscany and the big cities - come and indulge yourself in tiny hill-top towns, with restaurants serving unbelievably good food in beautiful piazzas or medieval rooms. We spent two weeks here and returned to some villages twice, to savour the atmosphere and to fix the wonderful views, paintings and architecture in our minds. Thank you to Rosa, Ruby and Camellia, who worked so hard, with Sarah and Sal, to give us a fantastic holiday - we hope to come back!

Room Tip: La Stalletta is peaceful and self-contained - though it's hotter in the summer than the B&B...

Just home from 4 nights at La Cuccagna- truly the most incredible place to stay- so peaceful and beautiful. Just the perfect break we needed (and perfect place for a proposal!!)

Sarah, Sal and Rosa are wonderful hosts, nothing was too much for them and they helped make our holiday so amazing! The advice they provide for days out and restaurants is fantastic!

We would recommend La Cuccagna to everyone, we are already looking forward to returning!

We enjoyed a lovely 3 days at La Cuccagna again this year. We were a little later in May than previous visits and the weather did not disappoint. Sal and Sarah have been working very hard again over the winter and are now offering a super indoor dining area overlooking the beautiful Umbrian hillsides.
We visited Spello this time and I can't believe I hadn't been before on previous trips to Umbria - this little hillside town was an absolute delight with the smell of Jasmine wafting from every narrow street and courtyard.
Our plans to walk up Mount Tezio did not materialise (again!!) but that's just an excuse for us to come back again next year.

Room Tip: We stayed in La Cisterna, which offered a small kitchenette which was very useful.

Thank you so much for your kind review. It is always so lovely to see you here at La Cuccagna and we're so glad you enjoyed yet another stay with us. Spello is indeed a delight and there are still plenty more places for you to discover and things to do for many more return visits. We hope to see you soon and that Monte Tezio is conquered next time!
Very best wishes, Sarah and Sal

Our journey started at stanstead, flying to Ancona. From there, we collected our rental car (which was really easy) and started the hour long drive to La Cuccagna. The drive up to Gubbio was beautiful. What a stunning landscape.
I was expecting the drive to be a little precarious as I knew the agriturismo was up in the hills, but it wasn't. The roads were wide, quiet and well sign posted.
On arrival at la cuccagna, Sarah was there to meet us, with a big welcoming smile! We knew instantly that we had picked the right place to come on holiday! The panoramic view from the pool area is just stunning, as it is from all the communal areas. We were staying in the family apartment, which was a lovely size. The double bedroom upstairs has the most comfortable bed of all time and a nice space for a travel cot too. Downstairs has a beautiful bathroom and a kitchen/dining room with everything you need.
Breakfast was served in the new communal dining room and consisted of lovely croissants, homemade condiments, cereals, meats and cheeses. Sarah also makes the best fig jam!!!!
Throughout our stay here Sarah and Sal could not be more helpful. At breakfast, Sarah always gives excellent advice to maximise your trip, recommending routes and restaurants. Listen to her! She knows her stuff!
My husband and I were travelling with our 10 month old son and unfortunately he was quite poorly near the start of our stay. Sal, without hesitation, accompanied us to the nearest hospital. He sorted everything out, translating all the Italian for us and made sure we had everything's we needed to get our son well again. It made a very stressful situation manageable and we can't thank you enough Sal.
Other than our unscheduled trip to hospital, we had a relaxing, cultural and fun holiday. The weather was wonderful and the grounds of la Cuccagna are beautiful.
Trips I would recommend are Gubbio, Montone, the organic wine tasting and Spello. All these places are about a half hour drive from la Cuccagna. (No scary roads!) Sarah always recommends where to park!
There is no doubt that we will be returning to stay with Sarah, Sal and their lovely daughter. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to come back.

We have stayed at La Cuccagna on a number of occasions and have loved every minute of each visit. Our first stay - some years ago - was in La Stalletta, while our son and his girlfriend did B and B in the farmhouse. The accommodation, the views, the pool, the pizza nights, the home made jams and olive oil and Sarah and Salvatore's hospitality are second to none.More recently we have stayed in La Cisterna - an ingeniously converted out-house, with the world's best shower! It's a great spot from which to visit amazing Umbrian towns and the local restaurants are good too. The ambience is peaceful and provides for separation and socialising - around the pool, at Sal's pizza nights and at breakfast. We'll be back this year!
