We had a great time at this hotel. It is a 3 star but standard is more like 4 star. The room was spotless, comfy bed, excellent shower and various toiletries. The pool area was relaxing as were the various loungers under the trees... bliss. The breakfast was varied and there is something for everyone. It is typically Italian but healthy too with cereals and fruit. There is a shuttle bus into the nearby town San Giminano which is vital because parking is horrendous in August. There are lots of other towns to explore which are less busy. The vineyard San Donato opposite the hotel is worth a visit and only a stroll away. The restaurant at the hotel at night is fantastic, we ate at it 3 times (over the course of a week). We will certainly be coming back to Tuscany and would definitely stay at this hotel again.

The hotel is a very good 3*S hotel with friendly staff. Breakfast was ok and the food in the restaurant is also ok. We had a family room (2 separate rooms) with 2large terraces. The room for the kids was ok for 2persons, but not so big. Nice large garden with a nice pool. Sunbeds enough to relax in the garden. The fence around the pool gives a strange feeling. On +/- 10min you are in San Gimignano, which is one of the most beautiful cities in Toscane. Firenze +/- 1u, Pisa & Lucca +/- 1.30u, Sienna +/- 45min, Volterra +/- 20min. The diner in the Vineyard, reserved by the hotel, was a nice experience. When I go back to Toscane, I will reserve this hotel again.

Dear Sir,
Thank you very much for your review and for being our guests, we are so glad that your family enjoyed your stay with us and had the chance to relax in our park and pool (we would like to clarify that the fence around the pool is required by law for safety) and to visit all the most beautiful cities in the nearby!
We hope to have you again as our guests!

A very pleasant setting with pool and extensive 'park-like' areas to get away from it all. Numerous wild ares easily accessible by paths etc close by but be aware, I came face to face with a thankfully docile large wild boar which clearly believed I was not a treat to her accompanying youngster!
The rooms are slightly dated and fairly basic but very clean. A particular disappointment was the average food offered particularly for dinner but there are many other good restaurants in town ( 12 minute drive plus). For exceptional value in delightful surroundings book at least one meal at the Fattoria in nearby San Donato. Here you are joined by a United Nations mix of like minded travellers looking for, and finding , an authentic Tuscan dining experience.
The Terre Rosse in summary is a decent choice in a very expensive area. We would certainly return...and eat elsewhere!

Dear Sir,
Thank you very much for your review, thank you for being our guest!
As you mentioned the hotel is in a pleasant position, in the middle of the natural park of Castlevecchio, the hotel offers 4 acres of garden and swimming pool and of course, peace. But the hotel is also very close to San Gimignano and all the other beautiful towns in the nearby, therefore our guests can relax after a hot summer day spent visiting around!
We have 55 rooms, in both Tuscan traditional style and modern mimal style, from Economy up to Deluxe Rooms, so that we can please all the guests' tastes, if you wish to come back you can of course choose your favourite type of room and we will be glad to welcome you again!
We are sorry that you didn't like much our restaurant: we offer the most traditional plates from our region and all our products are farm to table and occasionally home made, so that the guests can taste the tuscan tradition

We hope to have you as our guest again soon and we hope to improve your satisfation next time!

Kindest Regards

we stopped in this hotel for 1 night to visit San Gimignano. Great expectations from the website, we found a standard hotel in a great location. It looks like more a holiday inn in a suburban location than a 'Casolare'. Tiny - extra tiny rooms - we had bigger rooms in NYC! the biggest thing is the window... What I call a tourist trap.

Dear Sir,
We reply to your review because we think it's very important for the guests that want to reserve a hotel to have a real and honest idea of what they are reserving.
The Hotel Casolare Terre Rosse offers 55 rooms, from Classic Rooms to Deluxe Rooms, in traditional tuscan style or modern minimal style, also with private terrace outside.
The hotel offers services such as snack bar, bar, restaurant and a 4 acres park with infinity swimming pool. The hotel finds itself in the middle of the countryside, and reflects the spirit of the tuscan warmth and tradition, we give the guests rooms in different styles and sizes since we want to satisfy all our guests tastes, but maybe, reading your review, not only we were not the kind of hotel you desired for your stay; but we also think that you weren't well informed about the hotel, and expected a luxury service we do not provide being a 3 stars superior hotel, not a farmhouse, neither a holiday inn in a suburban location, since, as we mentioned, we are located in the middle of a natural park.
This said, we would like to inform you and the people reading this review, that the room you reserved for one night was a Superior Room with third bed, in tuscan traditional style and canopy bed, one of the most elegant rooms we have. We would also like to specify that the picture you attached belongs to the small window, but we well know that the room is big enough that it needs two windows to have all the light, one big and one smaller window.
This said, we wanted to clarify everything, not only because we want all the guests and interested people to have real information about us, but because we don't like false statements.
Furthermore, since your stay lasted only one night and you didn't join us for either lunch or dinner, we think it's very hard to give a judgment about a hotel and its services when you stay for just one night and do not join for any of the offered services.
In the end, we hope that all is well clear now. We are a professional team that has been working here for 20 years, giving the best services and our availability to all the guests. We are always open to complaints and requests because we think that we can always learn from our guests and improve our work, but we also like to grant our present and future guests honesty; this is why we always recommend our guests to check well before reserving, if the location and the style is what the guest desires for his stay in the countryside, since, as we already mentioned, we are not a luxury hotel neither an holiday inn, but a family run hotel, well loved by people who enjoy to relax in the countryside and to visit the beautiful cities around us and to have a warm and familiar service, but I think all the reviews we receive everyday are proving it.

We remain at disposal for any further comment or questio,
Kindest Regards

I have to remind myself that I must judge this as the three star accommodation that it is and not be too picky.....so here goes.
This hotel is approx 5 km away from San Gim. in a teeny tiny place called San Donato. Do not expect any shops etc..there are zilch....You have to drive to San Gim, unless you want to take a dicey stroll with no paths around the hair pin turns.
The hotel itself is a lovely converted farmhouse, its clean apart from the occasional whiff of sewage when walking through the main hotel doors and it has really good size grounds at the back. Uncomfortable sun beds and umbrellas are supplied for use but take your own beach towels if you do not want to be charged to use theirs. The pool is a good size and its freezing cold.
We had a deluxe room which was in the tower on the middle floor. Not very quiet if you have people staying above you as it is an original cobbold tiled floor and all you can hear is thud thud when people are walking about. If you do stay in the tower on any floor be aware that this faces the grounds/pool and the restaurant and bar is literally just to the right underneath you on the Ground Floor so as soon as people start going to breakfast you can hear the metal of the chairs scraping in and out from 7 - 10am.
Bathroom in our room was small but adequate and clean, shower pretty powerless.
The bed was horrendous. As soon as your partner moves the whole bed creaks and wobbles and we aren't exactly big. Think the mattress needs a change!!
The room does have air conditioning which didn't work one night due to a blockage??!! in the system, which when it has been 36 degrees in the day isn't good. After this happened it was fixed the following day, but the air con unit consistently vibrated throughout the night....not good and we did mention it to Reception.
Also beware if you are in one of the rooms in the tower it is right on the stairwell so you can hear people going past the room and up and down the stairs.
Breakfast is nothing to shout about, not good not bad, cereal, croissants, toast and 1 type of melon, again adequate but not great.
You can also get lunch in the hotel. Just be warned when the hotel gets busy, they don't have enough staff on to cope with the demand. We waited an hour and 10 minutes for a sandwich and a salad one day. Not the fault of the staff, however if they served people in the order they sat down and not because they sat near the door, they might not have received so many complaints.
The staff here are lovely and very helpful and Reception were really great with giving us tips of where to visit, park and the sights we should see etc.
The hotel did the job, a good base, but I can't rave about it.

Room tip: If you want a quiet room ask for one that isn't pool side

Dear Madame,
We would like to reply to your detailed review in order to give the best information to all the people that reads reviews on Tripdavisor and are interested on staying in our hotel.
We are located indeed 5 km from San Gimignano, in the middle of a natural park, therefore in the quiet countryside, and as it's known, the best part of being in the countryside is to be surrounded only by tranquillity and nature, far from the noises of towns. But since the hotel is very close to all the most beautiful cities of the area, the position is perfect to also travel around. Furthermore, in the little village of San Donato, only a 200 mts walk from us, there is a very nice farmhouse for wine and oil tasting that also sell their products.
To reach San Gimignano we have a free shuttle service three times during the day, at disposal for the guests that reserve and don't want to go by car during the hottest hours of the day, but if you asked, we could have provided you our walking trails map, with also the safe walking path to town.
Regarding the park and pool we would like to specify that our sunbeds are changed every year and that the swimming cannot be heated when the temperature outside reaches almost 35-40°, we offer this service for the guests so that they can refresh themselves and have relief during this very hot summer.
Regarding the room, we would like to remind you of the detailed and long mail conversation had with our reception staff during your booking, in which we well showed you also through pictures the room and told you that the room was situated in the tower in the first floor, so at your arrival you were supposed to remember that the room was situated in the first floor of the towe and that above you there is only one room, therefore the position is one of the quietest in the whole hotel, given that the staircase were used only by you and the couple above your room. If the mattress of the room was uncomfortable you could have told us, we would have immediatly found a solution and also changed it! All our mattress come from artisanal work and each one of them is one of a kind.
Regarding the air conditioning, we had indeed a technical problem during one of the evening of your stay, that was solved right the early morning after, the room's temperature was hot and by simply opening the window the temperature would have decreased, but we would like to remind that our reception staff preferred to give you a fan so that the air could be fresher; and had the problem solved by 8 am of the morning after.
Now we would like to clarify what happened during the lunch service: your stay lasted ten days and you joined us for lunch only once, a very busy day for the hotel as always was full and more than 40 people decided to stay for lunch. At our lunch service work from 4 to 5 people and in one hour we always grant the service, so that day as well we have been able to serve more than 40 people in one hour and we received only compliments from all the guests seated that understood the situation and appreciated our fast service, the only complain we received and have received till now was from you.
To finish, we would like to thank you for your compliments to our staff, as you mentioned and noticed always glad to help the any request and at disposal anytime.
We gave and always give the best to all our guests in order to make their stay comfortable and pleasant but we think that maybe we weren't the hotel suitable for your taste, that maybe would have preferred a smaller, and not for families hotel.

Kindest Regards
The Management
