Great hotel to visit a gorgeous city. Located in the old town, Alla Corte Degli Angeli was perfect for our 1 night stay in Lucca last August. On our way driving down to Rome from France, we just stayed one night for a quick 24 hour visit of the city. The location was perfect as it was easy to explore the town and come back and forth to the hotel on foot. While driving to the hotel was not simple because of a complex 1-way road system in the old town, everything was easy once we got there, with a parking belonging to the hotel just 50yrds from the hotel.

We stayed with our 7yr old in a junior sweet that had a sofa bed. The room was beautifully decorated. Only downside of our stay was the fact that they were renovating and started working at 9am outside our door. Otherwise, everything was perfect.

Our son had somehow forgotten his pet rabbit in his bed, and the hotel very kindly mailed us his rabbit back to us free of charge. That alone was a gesture that will ensure that my next stay in Lucca will be at "Alla Corte Degli Angeli" !

We were attracted to this hotel, because many of the rooms had lovely murals painted on the wall. We enjoyed very much the landscapes carefully painted on the walls of our (standard) room. We stayed five nights. The staff is friendly and helpful. We parked in their walled-in lot across the street for an extra 15 Euros per night. It would have been very difficult to park otherwise. The hotel is in old mansion and quaint in that way. It is in the busiest, most fashionable part of the old town, but is on a quiet side street. In the morning one hears the birds chirping from the trees across the street, but also the street cleaners and garbage pickup. I have just two reservations. First, when we arrived in the room there was an overpowering smell of cleaning agents (but that dissipated over time). Second, there was not enough closet space; so we had to use our bags for storage.

Room Tip: On their website there is a picture of each room. You can request a particular room.

This was one of the best hotels we stayed in during our small group tour of Italy. It is a true 4 star property. Rooms are beautiful, the hotel is right in the town, and provides a great breakfast. It may be 300 years old but a Zillion Euros have been spent to upgrade to this standard
TIP The hotel's restaurant is far superior to any of the 'get em in, get em out' tourist traps in the main areas of town.
If only all our hotels on our supposedly up market Back Roads tour had been this standard we would have been delighted.

Apart from its excellent location, comfy rooms, great showers, good wifi, etc. this hotel also gets top marks for its wonderful staff. We're not usually problematic guests, but we had a number of problems and they were so lovely about helping us out. From strong coffee for a migraine, to a hot water bottle for back pain, and help dealing with Alitalia and their strikes, the staff at the hotel went beyond the call of duty to help us through each mini-crisis. And this was all done with a smile. This is the mark of a caring hotel, just what you need when you're away from home. Thank you.
