Although we stopped by this "speakeasy" on a Thursday as it was our last night in Florence and we were the only ones there, the owner, Mariele, definitely made the best of our night. What began as stopping by based off a friends recommendation turned into almost 2 1/2 hours of conversing about everything from politics to Mariele's vision of his establishment and its future. To begin, the decor of the place is like no other and Mariele has a story for every piece of furniture. He has a unique mindset that you can tell drove him to create what this place currently is and what it will most definitely become. The place has shows starting Fridays, but unfortunately we were unable to experience them. He also described the secret room (with not one but TWO passwords) which opens once a month and how he created it in a way that it differentiates itself from other speakeasies around the world. I was told it even has authentic furniture and news clippings from the 20s!
Then came the cocktails, WOW! As a couple who drinks very infrequently, all Mariele's cocktails are his own inventions and boy do they taste good! The serving sizes are more than reasonable and the wide ranging menu has you wondering if the next drink will outperform your last.
Overall, I think anyone in Florence should stop by this place. Whether it be a quiet Thursday night like ours or what I can only imagine are lively weekends. No matter the day, Mariele will keep you entertained. This is definitely a place I will remember and return to on my next trip to Florence!
