Our family of 6 stayed in a two bedroom apartment and loved every minute. The apartment was spacious and comfortable. The hosts took excellent care of us, even getting one of the family members special food for breakfast. Across the street was an amazing restaurant that served awesome gluten free pasta and gluten free tiramisu!!! This was one of the best places we stayed during our European vacation! Location was perfect, right down the street from the Duomo and around the corner from the Academia and The David. Great place - highly recommended.

We have stayed at First of Florence a number of times. Previously, we stayed in the i Medici suite. This room, which has a double bed and a double sofa bed, was already booked so we stayed in the Enrico VIII suite, which has a double bed, a double pull out sofa and a separate room with a single bed. The bathroom has a Jacuzzi tub with a shower, as compared with the i Medici which only has a small walk in shower. The kitchen was basically the same in both rooms, but the Enrico VIII has a slightly larger refrigerator. Both of these rooms are quiet since they face the courtyard - not the front of the hotel.

We have never had any issues with our room previously, but this time we did. The safe did not work - it needed new batteries. There was no remote for the TV because the previous occupant had broken it. We had to use the TV manually using the controls at the back of the TV. There are only Italian TV channels so the TV is not critical. The whole building lost electricity for a short time early one morning. We were told it was the fault of the power company but it was a bit scary trying to get to the bathroom in total darkness. The thing that was most annoying was our washing machine did not work. It is a combination washer/dryer and the drying element did not heat or dry the clothing at all. They provided a huge dryer rack which they set up in our room, but it took a day to dry the clothing.

There is no one at the hotel from 8 pm until 8 am. We do not have a phone which works overseas and when we lost power I was concerned about being able to get in touch with someone.

This is the first time we have ever had any problems with the First of Florence, which is why I am still giving them 5*. Hopefully, these are routine maintenance issues which will be resolved.

The location is ideal. There is lots of room for a family. If you want to cook, there are the facilities. They provide milk, water and a bowl of fruit. There used to be more food items provided (lunch meat, bread, cheese) but I think most people did not use them and they went to waste. I wish they still had their relationship with the OK Bar across the street who provided breakfast. It was delicious.

I still recommend First of Florence and hope our recent experience was a "one off."

Located very close to the Duomo so all main attractions are within walking distance. There is also a supermarket on the same road.

The First of Florence offers all the convenience of an apartment with the perks of a hotel. There is a well equipped kitchen area and the added touches of milk, water and fruit in the fridge as well as some packaged croissants, tea, a coffee machine and various condiments was a delightful surprise.

The room was impeccably clean and incredibly comfortable. Given the age of the building, it was not particularly sound proof, but this did not pose a problem for me and is easily outweighed by the convenience of the location.

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, the room was spotless, the bed very comfortable and the location cannot be bettered. If I return to Florence, I wouldn't choose to stay anywhere else!

Note that reception is on the first floor (there is a lift!) and you will need to ring the buzzer if the door is closed.

This hotel is in a great location, walking distance to all the major sights and the train station. It has a lot more character than average hotels and has extra amenities like a kitchen and washing machine in the room. We really felt like we were in Florence all the time and my teenage sons loved the old building and lift. The steep stairs in the apartment would be difficult with young children or if you lack mobility but fine otherwise. The staff were extremely helpful, especially as we accidentally left some jackets behind and they offered to mail them to us.
