Walking around the land this sits on you can see the amazing potential, where there could be beautiful landscaping, wonderful olive trees and vineyards. However, what you see is overgrown olive trees and vineyards, which have not been pruned or cared for in years and machinery and equipment scattered throughout in a mess. The rooms are adequate, but there is little or no service. They only give out one towel per person for a week, which is to be used for both showering and for the pool as well. The rooms are not cleaned at all during the stay either. We had to go up after several days and ask for a roll of toilet paper, and they acted like we were asking for the keys to their car. The temperatures outside were in the 90's, yet the AC was not running and had not even undergone the annual maintenance yet, so there was no way to have it turned on. The breakfast was minimal at best. It seemed that each day they had less offerings. By the last day, there were no eggs, stale pastries, no cheese or meats, and of all things, no water. When we asked, the guy simply grunted "no" and said he had a headache. There are two men who work in the reception area. One was friendly and helpful, while the other was a jerk and seemed totally unwilling and disinterested in helping at all. This place needs to start offering room cleaning on a daily basis, including towel/linen change, needs a better breakfast and needs someone to come in an clean the place up.

ilmilionefirenze, Direttore at Fattoria Il Milione, responded to this reviewResponded 30 June 2017

Dear Michael,
Firstly i would like to thank you for taking the time to review Fattoria Il Milione.
It is only through feedback such as yours that we are able to mantain and indeed, where necessary, improve upon the service we provide to our valued Guests.

I will skip the part where you address our excellent staff, because i'm sure it was not your intention to use such disgraceful terms that offend their dignity and high professionalism.

We do not offer a daily basis cleaning, it is just on request, but this is widely advertised on every website such as booking, expedia, and our own site, so it is certainly not a surprise.
Our a/c is totally on and working, and as per the supplies requested , every appartment has an internal phone from wich our Guests can call directly the reception and ask for any needs they might have.
Our Fattoria is a huge property of 50 hectares and as you pointed in your review we have olive trees, and vineyards. In the countryside there are ploughing and sowing seasons. You came just before the beginning of that season and that is why you might have had the thought everithing was not taken care of.
I'm sure that if you will come to us now you will certainly have a different impression.
With best regards
Giampaolo Pargoli

Charming place just in the outskirts of Florence. From the cottage you can see the whole city of Florence and easily recognize the cathedral's dome. Amazing. Our room was nice and tidy. Personnel gentle and kind. Really a good choice.

Pros:
Staff are nice
Location is perfect.
Clean pool area and rooms
Fantastic restaurant adjoining property

Cons:
Understaffed
Rooms need a good maintenance/servicing overhaul
The property needs a good clean up. Some areas are simply piled with what looked like old furniture and equipment.
A building site sits in the middle if the property which is very unsightly and unsafe. Needs to be hoarded off properly.
Breakfast needs to be addressed. Not what you would expect in an agriturismo.
No activities to promote their own wines snc olive oil (some of the wines are nice)

These are a few observations. The biggest issue is that this place has so much potential but it seems that there is no enthusiasm in the way it is being run. I dare say the owners are trying to milk it without spending much.

Property needs a full upgrade before receiving more guests.

What a pity. It could be so much more

My family of 5 stopped here for 1 night on a road trip from the north to the south of Italy. When we called the day before to book a room, were happy they had a space for us. The place is huge, and neglected. When we booked, they failed to tell us that the apartments in the main part of the compound were full, so we were placed in a satellite area that was almost a mile away. It's not a big deal- just wish we knew. So we had to get in the car and walk a mile to breakfast, to the pool, to the reception, etc. Never met the owners, just their Filippino help who checked us in and was very nice. The other thing that was strange was that the air conditioning was an extra 12 Euros, but at least it worked well.

There was abandoned furniture by the pool, which wasn't very nice to look at. Our apartment (Certosa) was furnished with eclectic furniture that probably was nice 20 years ago.

The view IS beautiful and the restaurant is TOP NOTCH. I would go back to eat, but not to sleep.

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the main compound, if you don't have a car the "satellite" compound is just too far.

The staff at this beautiful farm were more than helpful in getting us taxi transportation to Florence. You do not need a car to stay here. You can enjoy the art and faith of the city and relax here with great food at osteria il milione!
