Owner description: This synagogue, one of the largest in Europe, was built between 1874 and 1882 in eclectic Moresque style by architects Marco Treves, Mariano Falcini,Vincenzo Micheli. The museo was set up on 1982 in the same building to display ritual objects, dating from XVI to XX Centuries and documentation regarding the history of the community. In the new section on 2007 was set up a room devoted to the memorial of contemporary history included the Shoa.

Classic Byzantine architectural influence. Not as ornate as cathedrals or churches but for Jewish temples it is very attractive. Considering that many others were destroyed by the nazis it was good to see it in good shape. Also, nice to be able to show the kids something old and historical in our culture in the overwhelming sea of non-Jewish places of worship.

There aren't to many places in FLorence that have reminisce of Jewish history yet despite it the only place that somehow overshadow other religious monuments is the synagogue that with its immense structure and unique beauty harmonize with FLorence, beautify of architecture even if you don't have religious sentiments it is a must place to visit in and out the premises

If you would like to see a truly spectacular synagogue, head here. Unique in every way and definitely worth the visit. It's about a 15 minute walk from the center but worth it, in my opinion

Would be an interesting spot in Leeds or Milton Keynes but in Florence? Well below average in my opinion :/

We planned on visiting this beautiful synagogue in a very untouristry part of Florence, and it did not disapoint. Beautifu outside and inside and very inspirational. Also went to the small upstairs museum, and was glad to see soldiers outside with very big guns. Untouristry and highly recommended if you have interest.
