This synagogue is a testament to the size and strength of the Jewish community that existed in the 1800's here in Florence. The sheer
Size and detail shows the the deep pride that the he community had. There is a small museum of many books, sidurim, scrolls and Paraphernalia. Remember to bring some clothing to cover your upper body when in the temple. Otherwise you won't be permitted entry.

Beautiful, well-preserved synagogue (repaired after the flood). Very modest museum as part of the facility.

This gorgeous structure also includes a Jewish museum with artifacts and a history of the Florence ghettos. The original books, documents and maps were wonderful. You can hear music in some sections of the synagogue. The sanctuary is truly beautiful. Without guides, it's hard to get questions answered or understand some of the historical perspective, but it was definitely worth every minute. This is a functioning synagogue that was repaired after a devastating flood, and there is a school on grounds as well.
