For a nice change of pace, try this new dumpling restaurant just off Piazza San Pier Maggiore on Via Matteo Palmieri.
We have been for dinner twice, and lunch twice as well, trying many of the menu items.
It is my position that cuisines other than Italian can do well using the local, high-quality, super-fresh ingredients and the spirit of Italian cooking that strives to be true to those ingredients. The beef and pork in Hutong’s dumplings are of excellent quality, and the vegetables are at peak freshness.
The pasta/noodles comparison and the ravioli/dumpling comparisons may seem familiar, but the cooks use a different seasoning palette, with soy, ginger and cilantro filling in for flavors you are accustomed to. This is Chinese food that Italian food fans will love.
Lunch is priced reasonably, and includes water and coffee, along with 2 courses. Portions are generous and the staff will package take-away if you can’t finish.
