Large variety of food, great burger if you are tired of pizza and pasta. We had an issue where one of the items we ordered had to be remade because it apparently fell on the floor. However the length of time it took was significant and the rest of us were done by the time we got the remake. Overall good variety and good food. Not the best place in Florence but one of the larger restaurants if you have a large party and is frequented by locals that should be a sign that it is solid.

Our party of four, tired and with one member on crutches, had walked past this restaurant, but I was intrigued by the joints of beef and the open wood fire in the small entrance window, and I proposed we return. We happened upon this restaurant by chance, but it is well known. As we walked along the street we passed the shop width entrance looking like an up-market butcher's. Then I noticed a wood fire and cooking meat. Looking up, over the door, the name Malatesta and the word Braciere. Step away a little and a large, vertical, sign, “Ristorante” is obvious.

Inside, the narrow entrance leads you past the chefs and opens into a large, deep, sparklingly clean and white space. The staff are welcoming and immediately friendly and helpful.

Not only was the food of the high quality one expects in Italy, but the service from Luca and Natale was impeccable. Both are truly professional waiters, proud of their profession. They made us feel welcome and looked after us in a very friendly fashion. All four of us enjoyed our meals which could not have been bettered.

The starter my wife and I chose to share, crostini in the Tuscan style, was brilliant. We also shared the house speciality beef “T-Bone” - exceptional. With the house red wine and coffee our total bill for four was extremely reasonable for the centre of Florence and good value almost anywhere in Europe. Warning, you can ask for smaller portions but the "Fiorientina" T-Bone should be 1.2kg for two people.

We loved it, and left in a very happy mood. What more could you want?

I rarely give such bad reviews to any place that depends on clientele for their survival, but this place truly deserves it. The service was terrible, the food was tasteless, and the wine was bitter. Not to mention that two of the meals never made it out to the table. All in all, one of the worst experiences I have ever had in ANY restaurant around the world. Again, I hate to do this type of review, but I hope to save someone from a similar experience.

We stumbled on this place when visiting Florence for the day , asked to see the gardens advertised at the door, very small but nice area so decided to stay for lunch , the restaurant was not busy and there were better tables but we were sat in the doorway with little room to move.
Waitress was unfriendly , offhand and took forever to bring the wine we had ordered, indeed had to be asked again for the wine and wifi code. As it wasn't busy we were made to feel like second class citizens whilst the staff appeared to serve newcomers first , we had to ask for salt and pepper but it was visible on every other table , our waitress seemed to have an attitude and yet the staff were making a lot of noise gossiping and laughing around the corner .
Our starters were passable though the courgette flowers were greasy and batter dense, main courses were way too salty particularly the ossobucca which made us wonder if we were being punished for asking for salt &pepper.
By the end of the meal the staff had disappeared leaving an older surly man alone , we watched his interactions and he seemed to be offhand with everyone , the few people who came in when he was apparently holding the fort took it upon themselves to go up to him to order food , we became impatient after trying to catch his eye to pay so went to the bar , he rudely ignored the person who was ordering and shoved the bill in my hand without any preamble , needless to say we paid exactly what the bill said and not a euro more .
We may have just caught this restaurant on a bad day but won't be back , it was our least enjoyable experience in Italy !

We were served small glasses of sparkling wine when we sat down. (Beware-they cost 2 euros each). But that was easily forgiven, because the food was delicious. My husband had a wonderful whole grilled chicken, and my pasta with meat sauce was exceptional!
