We ate at La Spada twice during our time in Firenze. We know this restaurant to have very good food since we have eaten there before on previous visits. We were traveling with our granddaughter for her quinceanera (15th birthday) and she and we were looking forward to the excellent food we know at La Spada. Our first dinner was just outstanding. We sat in the far back room with a very large Italian celebration (raucous, but in a good way) and other Italian diners. Everything, from the wait staff, to the excellent dishes we ordered were so satisfying. My granddaughters ravioli dish was the best dish she had had in Europe, according to her. We had very good antipasto (pates, cheeses, meats, etc.) which we shared, followed by my gnocchi (excellent), my wife's tagliata (sliced steak over arugula with shaved pecorino), and my bistec alla Florentina. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our steaks, both cooked perfectly and very flavorful. My steak was 500g, a huge piece of meat which I wasn't able to finish. Great dessert, wine, and just a wonderful time with the waiters. Couldn't ask for more. Second visit, couple of nights later, was much more subdued, in the side dining room. Much quieter, and much less 'fun'. The food was very good as usual but the waitress was not overly outgoing (like the rest of the wait staff) and seemed to be absent for long periods of time, as if she was attending to something else. While everything food wise was quite good, we can't say that our dining experience was anything like we have come to expect from La Spada. For that reason we have given the restaurant four stars this time (we've always given it five). Might just have been an off night but it's still... Prices overall are moderate. Wine list quite long and very good. We will definitely be back.
