Description: Once upon a time there was a very old mill. Today it is a charming Locanda with a special typical Tuscan Restaurant, completely renovated by Silvia and Riccardo Baracchi, owners too of “Relais & Châteaux Il Falconiere”. A heaven of tranquillity and elegance, in the middle of the Cortona countryside, a land famous for its culture, cuisine, and great wines. The style of cuisine inside the Locanda is simple and genuine, but never ordinary.

Just what we were looking for. Unusual, but we went there twice. They specialize in pizza which was excellent but their Osso bucolic was the best I've had. We also enjoyed their cantucci.

Thank avis

This is not High Cuisine. It is traditional Tuscan Country style cooking served in a convivial atmosphere in traditionally decorated rooms. It is in no way refined and presentation is not even attempted. It is Rustic with a capital R and very tasty. The Zucchini was perfect whilst the veal stew was extremely tasty. The dessert would have made an Eton Mess look tidy.

The ordering of the wine was like a Machiavellian operation when we were told we could have whatever we wanted except what we wanted which was the Sangiovese made in the Restaurant's own wine estate. After a few hidden murmurings and negotiations out came a magnum of the wine we had asked for. It was superb and all were left happy; us because we drank well and the waiter because he charged us a premium price for a magnum.

The old lady who is the owner came out to talk at length to us at the end of the meal, but none of us, even those who spoke fluent Italian had the faintest idea what she was saying.

It was fun and we all left happy swearing to return.

Wonderful country inn with a host that has a huge personality. This always welcoming place has a wonderful selection of meats and cheeses to start off with. Afterwards enjoy their small but select menu. Each of their pastas are very good to excellent. The steak wrapped in bacon is a favorite as is the fried rabbit. The restaurant is a cousin of Relais il Falconiere without the pretension or the Michelin star prices and with a more limited food selection. The restaurant is also related to the Bottega Baracchi in Cortona which I like much less. Well worth the visit for those who want to journey out of town.

Very authentic Tuscan restaurant. Stooped there because it was mentioned in the book by Frances Mayes, "Every Day in Tuscany". It was a very local place, which I like. Families enjoying their Sunday afternoon together, no rush.

Totally brilliant family dining experience - great welcome, great wine and great food - how the Tuscans do it best - and the preferred place for the locals to go on a special occasion ... passable English description of menu items - we suspect you could select anything and be wowed away ... the crostini and fish starters, seafood, pasta, the marvellous beef, the exquisite lamb fricassee - magic deserts / great desert wine .... take the advice from the main man on wines - the baracchi syrah was splendid - we went twice in a week, on our return we felt like family ... the terrace is a delightful place to dine, the main room is where the action happens around a large carving / preparation table - both work well ... see you next year guys ... just brilliant!
