We had a recommendation for the Trattoria Toscana which said it was just “good simple food”. We also got the impression that it was going to be a fun place to visit. We weren’t disappointed.
The restaurant is close to the main square and very much a family concern. We had the impression that it was popular with the locals as well as the tourists.
Whilst my wife didn’t enjoy one of the past dishes as she found it just too much, the food was excellent and in particular I would recommend the steaks. This seems to be their signature dish and I had mine with excellent truffles; absolutely delicious.
The drink was local wine and local beer; the soapy, slightly cloudy brew that was the beer wasn’t the best and can’t be recommended. The drink on the house was a slug of a green concoction that was a homemade by the owners. Based on bay leaves it was good enough to inspire one of our party to consider making his own on our return to the UK!
Overall, we had a great time and will visit the sister restaurant in Hudson, New York next year!
