Taormina is expensive. This hotel is a rare exception that also offers easy parking - either on the steep driveway up to the entrance or (easier) on the main road. Getting to town is a longish slog uphill on foot or the cablecar is just a couple of minutes' walk away. Great view of the bay from many rooms and the breakfast terrace - all in all a perfect location from which to take in Taormina. 24 hour reception (useful if your flight into Catania arrives late in the evening).

Rooms are OK; the breakfast buffet is basic - the red Sicilian orange juice has too much water in it and the coffee machine is Nescafe (instant coffee and watery fruit juice are my main buffet breakfast hates, and surprisingly they often go together ...). Ask for a glass of red wine at the bar and you get an inexpensive huge tankard of the cheapest plonk imaginable.

This hotel is frequented by several tour operators (which has the advantage that there are plenty of excursion brochures in the hotel lobby - and it would be possible to be based here for some days without your own hire car if you prefer others to do your driving for you). Plenty of more upmarket restaurants on the bayfront (reputedly Taormina has some of Sicily's most expensive restaurants) and a couple of mini-supermarkets two minutes down the road.

To be recommended for its value for money and convenient logistics; not for its cuisine. Rooms perfectly OK, basic balcony included.

Room tip: Ask for bay view

I suppose every one has another view on things, and I was quite astonished when I read some of the reviews of this hotel. For us the hotel was good and the staff was friendly. Our room was at the side of the hotel and we could see the sea. We had a normal nice bathroom with good shower. Breakfast was good, and the second day we were in Taormina it rained quite hard in the morning, and we were just sitting around, and having coffee, and every one was friendly.

Even thought the hotel is ok, we had a terrible experience with the owner/manager. While getting directions on our way to the beach from the reception, he snaked behind us and grabbed the towels and yelled that the hotel's towels are not for the beach. He refused to our offer to either pay a fee or leave a deposit for the towels, and just sent us some 500 yards up the road to purchase towels, all in a very rude and abrasive manner. This man has no understanding or care of client satisfaction and therefore should be in the back office away from contact with any guests. We will NEVER be back at this hotel, and ensure that all our friends and acquaintances are aware as well.

Room tip: look for a different hotel with better customer service

Beware of owner, he grabs boobs! He put his arm around me, reached into my shirt and grabbed my breast. He did it to me and I saw him do it to another customer. I mentioned it to the woman at the hotel desk and she just shook her head knowingly with a look that said "what can I do about it?"

Other than that, the hotel was quite beautiful. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the ocean. Incredible view. It was simple but clean and spacious. Breakfast was nice, a good selection. Location is great a nice walk into town. Rooftop pool is spectacular and food is very good at the bar up there.

Needs to be update. Very old decor, super uncomfortable beds, really bad food. There is no real shower. Instead you have a hand held that is at knee high. It makes for a very awkward bathing experience.

Room tip: The only rooms with a view are on the 5th floor
