This is the third time for us in this hotel/hostel. Given its location away from Ortigia, it’s a bit off the beaten path but it gives you quick access to the archaeological area. It’s mostly used by bus tours but you will find also occasional tourists. This is a great inexpensive hotel as long as you are OK with the no-frills/no luxury option; this hotel is simple, but very good if you don't want anything fancy. The room was very clean, the beds comfortable, the air conditioning worked without a hitch, the bathroom was big but the shower was quite small. Breakfast had all your basics and more, the croissants and cappuccino are really good. If you want to watch TV at night, most probably this is not the right place for you. We showed up at this hotel without a reservation and got a special half-pension rate for the night including breakfast and dinner, free parking is in the back. A big positive is that the in-hotel restaurant offers you a 3 course meal with a huge portion of pasta, an average sized second entrée (not fancy) including a side dish (salad or veggies) and fruit or sorbet. The food is good and even has gluten free options. Word of caution! The breakfast/dinner room is a very large room, but it gives you a sterile feel to the place if there aren’t many patrons. You should use this hotel as a base to see the historical sights of Syracuse: the Greek amphitheater, St. John’s catacombs & archeological museum can be walked to within a 5 minute to about 10 minute walk. However, Ortigia island is about 20-25 mins walk depending on your speed. At night evening you can call taxi from Ortigia and they charge you around 15 euros. We will be back in 2 years.

Room Tip: This time we stayed in the second floor, very quiet at night

We showed up at this hotel (also known as the House of the Pilgrim - la Casa del Pellegrino) without a reservation and got a special rate for the night (40 euros including breakfast) and was able to park for free in their private parking area behind the hotel.
The room was spartan but had all the basic amenities and free wifi.
The breakfast is simple but for us as long as there is fruit, yugort and coffee, we are OK.
Great inexpensive hotel if you are OK with the no-frills/no luxury option.

When we arrived, the entire hotel was without power and the parking area was filled with maintenance vehicles and workers. Hoses and wires were everywhere. When we entered the hotel, the lobby was full of guests as they were not in their rooms or the restaurant, awaiting restoration of power. I immediately stated that our reservation was to be cancelled due to non-service. The hotel representative stated the problem was being worked on and she would not cancel. I asked how long before the power would be restored or what was the time frame or the nature of the problem from simple to severe that the maintenance crew had advised her on. She did not know. I again stated, we wanted cancellation... she told us we had to wait 15 minutes. Which then turned to 45 minutes. She then informed us that the problem could not be remedied and the time frame was uncertain, so she cancelled the reservation. When we requested an alternate location, she could not assist us in the entire area of the city. Never, ever again.

As a first view the hotel was fine. Central location just behind Madonna Delle Lacrime. Going to the room, the bathroom sink was blocked. the shower very rusty and the bed not so clean! The breakfast was average. very bad wifi signal that doesn't reach the rooms. Bad experience overall.

I will start with the good part - the staff is helpful and kind.
But, the rooms were cold, and the breakfast was poor and the same every day - only one type of ham and one type of cheese, one type of juice and even only one type of tea!
Also, it is not centrally located. You need 25 minutes to come to the Ortigya (the old part of Syracuse). It is near the archeological museum and the archeological park.
