The most perfect hotel. The location is superb...beautiful view of the sea and harbour, a few steps away from the charming little streets of Ortigia....it is simply gorgeous. The staff were polite, helpful and managed to deal with our large group (38 of us) with the upmost ease. Nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were lovely and having breakfast and pre-dinner drinks on the sunny terrace, overlooking the sea, was just heavenly.
Thank you so much for making our stay in Syracuse perfect. All of the group agreed...why would you stay anywhere else?

Spent a no-notice week in Sicily, and was aimed at The Grand Hotel---what a great experience! Location & in-house restaurant absolutely fantastic! Quiet, on waterfront---with easy access parking available

Room Tip: Fantastic restaurant & views

We stayed here for 3 nights in March. We liked very much: breakfast outside with a panoramic view, large room also with a great view, the terrific location that was convenient to everything, and the fine service at the front desk. Also there were some neat little things - the Sicilian oranges they left in the containers in the halls were delicious, and my spouse and I got a kick out of the "piccolo museo" in the basement - a charming and offbeat arrangement of ancient artifacts. My only suggestion would be to put in a small gym with some fitness equipment.

Staying here for a few days over the Easter holidays. It’s a charming building and they have made the spaces appealing with comfortable furnishings in cooling colours. The staff are helpful. They responded quickly when we had to change rooms because of a broken shower. The restaurant is on floor three and has views over the harbour. You can sit outside and have breakfast. Breakfast has a good number of choices but the juice could be improved. The service in the bar is one area where this hotel is not five star. We waited over half an hour for a drink. They did bring snacks as they knew the service was not adequate.

The hotel is located on the island of Ortigia, just outside the Porta Marina. Access to the UNESCO-listed Old Town is at a slight incline, some 10 minutes stroll from Piazza Duomo. Valet-parking is available in front of the hotel although its size means it must be struggling in the high season so perhaps pre-booking well in advance is advisable.

Just after the sliding entry doors there are steep-ish marble steps and the reception is immediately to the right, with more steps.

Access to upper floors, and the dining/breakfast room is by means of a slow lift with a view of the inner courtyard.

We stayed in the Superior Corner Room (303) on the third floor that afforded us quite extensive views over the marina. For its class the room was of comfortable size (standard rooms on that floor were much smaller) and functional. The bed was comfortable, just about adequate wardrobe space and a TV showing Italian channels only. There was a minibar but no tea/coffee-making facilities and a safe box. There was no complimentary water either. Fiddly light switches throughout.

The bathroom was quite standard with an uncomfortable square toilet seat. The shower had those modern faucets meaning it was awkward to use. Bathrobes and slippers were provided.

The rooms on the third floor are a modern addition to the hotel that translates into thin walls so that you can pretty much hear the conversations next door.

The breakfast offers quite an extensive range of hot foods, cheeses, excellent ham, breads and cakes as well as a modest selection of fruit. They also serve the magnificent fresh red orange juice. The terrace offers great view over the marina and towards the old town.

Dinner served in the breakfast room was typical Italian with an acceptable selection of local wines.

It is a reasonable four-star hotel but in no way it merits its five stars status.

Room Tip: Room 303 has huge balcony
