The hotel itself was nice, the room was nice enough if a bit outdated...but for what you pay you'd expect it to be.

The hotel is fine if you want to sit by the hotel pool all week as location isn't near town and without telling you they charge you €2.50 just to call a taxi on your behalf (we found this out when paying the final bill)

The taxis into town cost €15 there and €15 back and to the train station it's €20 each way!

I couldn't quite understand the staff...they seemed friendly enough but did not want to help with anything at all. When we asked a question it was as though we were bothering them and they were completely unhelpful. None of them had any idea of buses or transport and couldn't even recommend a nice restaurant in town...(they are all nice apparently, which was certainly not true)

The hotel restaurant again was nice enough but not worth the prices they charge and again the staff seemed completely clueless. Very odd place to stay if I'm honest.

Beach was disgusting opposite the hotel, but the train journey into taormina was around 45 mins so that's good and the beaches there are lovely.

All in all not a great experience and it turned out to be extremely expensive.

Dear Charlotte,
thank you for your review and your kind comments on our services.
We feel obliged to reply to the criticism of our location. The car service is not one of our subscription services, but our staff is available to satisfy the customer upon request. The hotel is based a few miles from the centre end it's easily accessible. Our staff is properly prepared about the means of transport or the ways to get around the city, so we find it strange that you didn't get advices about places to visit or to go for a dinner,
Regarding the restaurant, the prices are exposed in our lobby and inside the room; considering the quality of food products, the request is balanced.
The beach is based outside the hotel, so does not come within our competence. We collaborate on the preferential tariffs for our guests.

Best regardes

This hotel is in a great location for beach goers and easy to get to and get out of for people with cars. I stayed here for 2 weeks on a business trip and would definitely stay here again. The staff is very friendly and they offer valet parking for your rental car. A thing to note though, the valet parking is really they park your car and when you're ready to leave, they give you the key and you go find your car. A little different than I'm used to but it worked out just fine. The rooms are clean and modern with plenty of outlets and a comfortable bed. You really couldn't ask for more.

Room tip: Quit Room, Free Internet, Valet Parking

This is one of the most beautiful hotels I have stayed. A great location by the Ionic sea near all the most important places you need to visit in Catania. We spent 10 days there for our summer vacation. From the moment we arrived the staff that greeted us was amazing by the garden and then for the checking in. The room was beautiful with a little terrace with a table and chairs overlooking the pool. Very clean with amazing grounds, the service superb, breakfast was part of the package we received with the booking and let me tell you that was a wonderful experience because everything was delicious. Thanks to the very friendly, helpful staff to make our stay so unforgettable. I will be visiting Catania again, hopefully next summer and The Romano palace is were I want to stay.
Thanks again again Romano palace not only you have a great hotel but an amazing staff.
Regards
Salvatore Pappalardo

We have just had a week's holiday as a family of 3 at the Romano. On first arrival(just 10 mins taxi ride from airport 20 euro) the image is stunning. We were met by very helpful staff who provided good friendly information and assistance in all areas. The room (103) was spacious and well equipped. It was presented in a very clean and tidy state of which the staff kept that way all week. Fully air conditioned made it a pleasure to stay. Anything we requested during our stay was met with smiling and helpful staff. The breakfast was well above expected standards and was in a very pleasing atmosphere. Pool areas always had plenty of lounges and space at all times with fresh towels available. Again the staff displayed excellent standards. DOWNSIDES. Regards the hotel none. However local amenities are sparce and shops almost none existant. A bus or taxi trip into Catania is a must for restaurants and shopping. (exception to this is the Rainbow restaurant across main road). The hotel bars and resturauntes are expensive but as this is stated to be 5 star was expectedly so. Overall in Scicily the rating of 5 star is probably justified however compared with UK standards 4 at best. This area and hotel is for relaxation not an active holiday. If that's what you want it's perfect.

This hotel was very nice with a luxurious setting. The room was very comfortable and spacious. The bathroom was large with a nice bath and shower area. The restaurant provided delicious food. The grounds are spectacular. Best of all, it is just a 5-10 minute drive to the Catania airport.
