We booked this hotel because we were arriving late at the airport and it was nearby. The parking lot is behind a gate that guests need to request access to via microphone. Our car was safe, so that worked well.
We paid 199 Euros for a couple with a child. They first sent us to room 140, which smelled strongly of mold. The whole hall smelled like there had been flooding and water damage. We refused that room and were given 231 with an adjoining room. What astonished me is that they dared to offer something that gross to people paying full price. Wouldn’t you put your best foot forward? The hotel wasn’t full.

The other rooms were fine. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom supplies were useful. We ate dinner in the outdoor restaurant late at night. Ordered pizzas that were so thick, hard, and burnt that it was impossible to saw through them with a knife. The waiters ought to have noticed but were not present. They seemed to have a superior attitude. Breakfast, however, was very nice.

Dear ,

firstly, we would like to thank you for taking the time to write your feedback about your most recent stay at Romano Palace Hotel.

On the other hand, we are very sorry to learn that there were some aspects of your stay that did not meet your expectations at the fullest and we would like to express our apologies. As regards the room assigned to you, the one (140) booked by you was a triple room, the second room, 231, is actually a doble room, two different communicating rooms. However, no additional cost has been charged. We apologize for the problems encountered in the first room. Thanks so much for positives notes to the breakfast and others service.
We are looking forward to a second opportunity, so we can make you feel more comfortable.

I've stayed at a lot of 4 and 5 star hotels. While this is certainly a pleasant hotel, it falls short of "luxury" by usual standards.

Pros: nice staff, clean rooms, comfy beds and pillows. Towels are good, along with water pressure and hot water. The property is well groomed and the pools looks lovely. Very close to the airport.

Cons: mediocre at best air con; tub/shower is odd and difficult. No conditioner. Walls are so thin you can hear your neighbors, plus hear doors in the hallways open and close. Small rooms with no real seating area that is comfortable. No views at all. Located within an industrial area that is so unappealing. Nothing is nearby and they have no gift shop to buy sundries or even a bottle of water.

The breakfast buffet is underwhelming with very little fresh fruit (watermelon only).

Bar has interesting décor and good selection of spirits. Décor is worn.

Overall, if I return, I would look elsewhere.

This is supposed to be a five star hotel but pretty average in reality. On every front, there is nothing extraordinary nor deplorable. The only upside is that it's just across the street from the beach.

Reception ok, Service at bar ok, Room we stayed was clean, the view of the pool was obscured by trees but that was fine as it gave privacy. The bathroom needs some basic improvements, i.e. the shower does not have an anti slip mat, a saucer for soap is missing, hair conditioner is not provided shampoo and other amenities were not enough for two people. The extras are rather expensive (drinks at the bar, wine at the pool) The restaurants (pool and formal) provide good service and a good choice of plates but prices are somewhat expensive.

Room tip: first floor rooms on the pool side

Have just stayed at this hotel for a week with my sisters, and I can’t fault it.The room was lovely and clean and a good size even for the 3 of us.The breakfast terrace room was a delight to sit in every morning quite and peaceful with a good selection on offer. The pictures of the pool do not do it justice, this was a lovely area to use and chill out.The staff were very friendly and helpful and all areas of the hotel were kept clean and tended,we ate in the restaurant with no complaints. We also ate at the Rainbow restaurant which is Opposite the hotel on the beach ,also lovely and friendly ,you can use the beach for free with the tickets from the hotel reception, you can also buy bus tickets there to go in to Catania town.the area is quiet there aren’t any shops you would have to drive or get the bus into town for that.We were worried by the reviews we had read about this hotel but were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. All in all had a wonderful relaxing stay. A big thank you to all the staff.PS the American Navy had an evening event at the hotel while we were there, nice to see them all in their uniforms, they were respectful and not to noisy the music finished about 12 with no problems.good value for our money

Room tip: Corner room at the back of hotel nice and quiet
