Stayed here for 5 days with my wife and two small boys, 8 & 7. Thoroughly enjoyed the apartment and of course Venice! Excellent advice given by Chiara re. things to do and see.
The apartment was perfect and I wish we were back there right now !
Appartment is just magical! The location is ideal. everything you need, you might need, all there is. this apartment is a unique opportunity to feel like a local resident. I stayed in love with this apartment and terrace.
The pictures don't do it justice. This is a spacious home base in Venice. You could fit both rooms we stayed in in Rome in just one of the bedrooms or the living room. The apartment is on 2 levels (and then the rooftop patios)... on the first level is the kitchen (good sized, with a table to eat at and a dishwasher), a living room / dining room with lots of books, a tv, space for up to 6 around the table, the two bedrooms and a powder room. As you can see from the photos the apartment is attractively furnished. What you can't tell is that the chairs, beds, etc. are comfortable and that there is a lot of storage. You can put your things in white storage cupboards so that they are out of the way. I liked that there were a lot of chests / tables to spread things out on while mapping out the day.
Upstairs is the bathroom with tub / shower and the washer. To dry, there is a rack that can be placed on the patio outside (clothes come out of the washer pretty well wrung out so they dry fast). If you need it, it is really nice to have the ability to wash things. The washer was simple to use and Chiara made sure we were ok before leaving. From this landing is the entry to the rooftop patios (2). The one on the lower level has the table and chairs and the upper one has a love seat and chairs.
You can see the Rialto and the Grand Canal from the upper and out over Venice from the lower.
Let's talk location for a minute. You can't get much more centrally located than this! You are literally around the corner from the Rialto which makers coming in from the train station or going to or from the airport incredibly easy. Venice is a maze and you're going to get lost. On the corners, painted on many of the buildings are the words "S. Marco" or "Rialto" with an arrow. Given that you are so close to the Rialto, you can always find your way home! If you are in one of the districts that isn't near the Rialto, worst case you can ride one of the boats to the Rialto. You are a quick walk to S. Marco or just about anywhere else you'd want to be in Venice. There are many great restaurants in all price points nearby (FYI... in general the most expensive places seem to be between S. Marco and the Rialto, head across the bridge toward S. Palo or one of the other districts for better deals). Chiara was very helpful in providing a list of suggestions. You also have the option of bringing in food from the grocery. We really didn't want to cook but did get ready to eat items from a few places and supplemented them with fruit, cheese, etc. from the grocery and enjoyed eating on the roof.
A word about temperatures and noise. We found that with the windows open there was a lovely cross-breeze. We did not need the air conditioning (but it was available). With the windows open you could here the noise from the Rialto and a restaurant around the corner BUT Venice is not like New York. There are no cars. People seem to wrap things up and go to bed by midnight. With the windows closed the noise is minimal. If you like a breeze and go to bed early, ear plugs work just fine. If you are going to bed around 11 or 12 (which works great if you eat at 9:30 -- which we did a few times since that is a typical second seating time for dinner) it is amazingly quiet.
There is only one drawback to this spot. If you can't walk up stairs, this wouldn't work for you. There is no elevator. (It also wouldn't work if you have to lug a stroller up the stairs...kids about 8 and up should be fine... they would be able to do stairs easier than the adults! and the railing on the porch is high enough and sturdy) I counted 90 steps up and then there are stairs to get to the second level and stairs to get on the roof. While the stairs might take away your breath, the view definitely will! The view is worth the stairs!!!!!
The owner, Chiara, is very helpful. She takes care of her apartment and makes you feel at home. (Oh, and wifi worked great.)
I highly recommend staying here -- and when we come back to Venice will plan to stay here again.
