Maybe a 2 stars hotel (more likely 1 star), but definitely not 3 stars. And way too expensive for what you get. In addition, the overall experience is ruined by very rude staff.
After spending some time locating it, we were (not) greeted by frontdesk clerk Igor who didn't even say hello and instead just barked at us "passports", which we provided. But Igor was busy doing something else and didn't even think about checking us in. He said we have to leave passports and come back in half an hour (even though it was after 3pm and there was no one around). When we objected, he said fine, take a sit and wait 30 mins. When we said this is ridiculous and Igor started literally screaming at us. We traveled a lot and stayed in many hotels in many countries around the world - but I never experience someone screaming at you just because you want to check in. When we asked to see his manager, Igor said he is the only one in the whole hotel until the next day, which I didn't believe for a moment. That was just the checking in.
The breakfast was the worst experience ever. They have a very small room for a very large hotel, which means it is always full of people. They cannot possibly sit everyone, so they have very small tables you can barely sit at with tiny plates (which are the same size as tea cup plates - see photos). So you have to keep coming back to put just a tiny amount of food on your plate. All their bread is expired (see the photos). How would you like a bread from 2016? Or how about from 2013? You have to ask to make you coffee, and then may be 10 mins later, they will make you one with tiny amount of coffee and lots of froth (the worst coffee in the whole of Italy!).
Not much else to say, apart from the shower, which is basically a pipe in a wall at chest level with a shower head you cannot adjust. So if you want to take a shower, you have to crouch or be an acrobat.
AVOID!

Room tip: don't stay here, pick another hotel

Everyday we will came back we would be greeted by a young man called Igor. He was kind and knowledgable and he will tell you the best interest to do in a short time in Venice. If you meet Igor he is the type of guy you need around, we had a great time. On Friday 27/07/18 we arrived back with my friends from a day out and once we put our foot inside there was a young couple at the reception who were extremely rude to the poor receptionist which was our friend Igor. The young couple towards him was not right they were aggressive and rude to him but Igor kept his cool. It was all about leaving the passports with him but they didn’t want to. All over the world they ask passports for check in and we didn’t understand why all this fuss they gave to him. If we come back again we definitely come here and we will the message on to all our friends. Keep the hard work going and Igor you are the best.

Dear Rosy,
many thanks for your feedback. We exploit the chance to remind all future guests that in Italy it is compulsory to show a document that proves one's own identity when entering a turist accomodation for the first time. On our part it is compulsory to register the guest's identity document details into the accomodation electronic system.

To be honest, we were a bit skeptical when we booked this hotel but it seemed the only good option for our budget for a trip to Venice in the city's high season. We were very glad we booked it though because the hotel is really great. It is in the heart of the city, very close to the Rialto bridge (and boat station) and it's easy to go from there to all the other neighborhoods. The staff is very friendly and as soon as we got there they kept our luggage (as we arrived early) and gave us a map showing where to go to the main attractions. The bedroom was a bit smaller than we thought it would be, but it was very well decorated (Venetian-style) and cozy. Everything was clean and smelling good. Breakfast was also great. Only issue with this hotel for us was the wi-fi: It didn't work. So if by any chance you absolutely need a hotel with a good internet connection, this place isn't for you. All in all, we loved this place and would definitely go back.

rooms actually do not look like the pictures on the hotel website.

but they are good.
slightly smaller that what I expected but it was an experience to live in that 500 year old building so close to St.Marks sq and Rialto bridge.

The person at reception-Franco was so lively and expressive.
he was fast ,polite and very professional.

the breakfast was basic but good.
it had ample vegetarian and non vegetarian options with hot beverages.
good enough to a healthy and energetic start of the day.

close to many inexpensive eateries and street food joints.
nothing is too far from here.

rooms are ornate and overdecorated.
they can do away with a few pieces of furniture or get some plain curtains to tone down the over luxurious feel.
but thats just my opinion.
many people might like it as it is.

they have done electric wiring again as I understand that so old a building might have needed it.the wires have been safely and successfully concealed in the room.

We had a young child but he could not find them :)

Wifi was good.

glad that I booked Canaletto.

yes! its the residence of the famous painter of yester years.

This place has potential, it's a nice, if a bit hard to find, location, the decor is charming and the rooms are adequate. The room was a bit dirty, and the WiFi did not work at all during our stay. It was going in and out, mostly out. Reception just kept restarting the router, which did nothing.
