Owner description: It is said that Napoleon called San Marco "the drawing room of Europe." And it is a breathtakingly beautiful place. But the square has long been a lure for massive numbers of pigeons, drawn by the massive numbers of tourists who readily feed them. While the tourists happily post for photos amid the flock, there are concerns that the birds' presence--and what they leave behind--will damage the centuries old architecture and art work.

Must see when visiting Venice. Just a hint, go there in the morning to avoid large groups of tourists

“Watch Venice go by!”
Reviewed 8 March 2012

We visited in late November so not too manic! In fact really rather quiet! It was nice to walk around the edge looking at the shops and watching the World go by! Its pricey around there for anything but as a site to see its a part of Venice to go to! Its also a great reference point ot head back to if you get lost as always sign posted even when you are further out in the City!

“One of the "must see" destinations.”
Reviewed 6 March 2012

This has to be on everyones "bucket list", you will take countless pictures, (thank goodness for digital cameras).
Just be careful that you don't get your feet wet when the tide is in, as you will be looking anywhere but down?

“Find yourself in the flow of history”
Reviewed 5 March 2012

So many historic events have happened on this spot. It's resonance echoes for 1000 years. Visit the Accademia Museum to see 600-year-old paintings depicting the spot where you're standing. And it looks practically unchanged.

“Stand 10 minutes, take all your photos and move on.”
Reviewed 5 March 2012

Im sorry but I just cant get excited about this place. yeh we took plenty of photos and that was it. Nice Latte for 10e!, No thanks! you will find it oppressive in the day, Yeh I know its a tourist trap and that its going to be busy, but between the vendors, hawkers, excursion sellers, and the freaking pidgeons. Its to overkill. I would recommend returning anytime from 6pm onwards. We sat here until 11pm one night and it was nice and quiet and peaceful. And the live music was still being played long into the night. Much better to jump a water taxi and go over to some of the islands a lot less busy. and half the price in the eateries. Do not go here in Jan, I made the mistake of coming back in winter it was freezing and half the place was on wooden walkways as it was flooded.
