Since this restaurant is only steps from the San Basilio vaporetto stop, we had walked by it several times without considering to stop and eat there. Also, it is on a small street, with people walking by as they come and go to the vaporetto. It looked rustic, a basic trattoria. The surprise is that the food is much better than that. Happily, the chef is not overly ambitious. The dishes are straightforward, but with excellent quality ingredients and not overly cooked. The menu is short, but they are willing to try to accommodate diners (e.g.,, if you want a different sauce on a preferred type of pasta). Service was attentive. When we commented on how hot it was (this was during a heat wave), the waiter brought an ice bucket for our white wine and also put in the bottle of mineral water to keep it cool. I ended the meal with watermelon -- the most sweet I have had in many years.
