Had one of the most delicious meals in italy here. We had the 5 course degustation with matching wines and it was worth every cent. Each dish was faultless and every flavour worked so well. The restaurant doesnt try too hard either and the wait staff are excellent. They give very generous tasty portions with a few surprises along the way. I had to waddle my way home. A must when in venice!!

Just around the corner from our hotel, quaint but modern interior, simple small tables and low key staff. Do you like surprises? This is your place. They ask a few questions. 3,5 or 8 small courses? Any allergies or food aversions? Meat, fish or both? Ok, order a nice wine or aperitif, or just water and settle back. Imaginative but simple, top ingredients, nice pace. Don’t let the empty tables fool you, they only take so many reservations per night and Chef works with a small but talented staff in a small but spotless kitchen. Little Venice crabs and local seafood, delicious use of herbs and spices, well treated and perfectly prepared animal products, fabulous. Reserve early, don’t miss.

We were referred to Zanze XVI (also known on maps as Trattoria da Zanze) for its creative cuisine. Yes, creative. Also, some highs and lows. The menu is primarily a tasting menu, but you can order some off the menu, but they encourage you to order the same thing as your partner, which limits the "tasting" aspect. We ordered three dishes; an oxtail with pumpkin and coconut, a risotto with red pepper and the meat of the evening, which was a pork belly.

Started with a bouche amuse which was truly delicious... a beignet filled with hazelnut cream and dusted with dark chocolate. It was a unique combination of sweet and savory, and outstanding. The next course, the oxtail was also outstanding. The chef is able to combine textures and flavors that are palate tantalizing. Our third course was supposed to be the risotto, but our server informed me the chef was switching because he wasn't satisfied with the risotto, so it came last. The pork belly was exceedingly fatty, more so than usual, so much was inedible. The risotto still tasted a bit "burnt". I liked it, my husband did not. Wine list is very reasonably priced. I do suggest a trip there. There may be some courses that don't appeal to you, but you will walk away with something that definitely will surprise you.

Out of the way, near the train station, this Osteria is worth the detour. The chef trained in a Michelin star restaurant in Paris. The food is “osteria’ type in that it reflects what the market produces. The savors are simple but exalted by the preparations. Service is convivial and charming. Few wines but carefully selected. Did I mention reasonable prices? En joy a mare or terra menu or let the chef surprise you.
The decor mixes contemporary with the old, comfortable and avant-garde together.
Not your traditional comfort food nor continental food mix as in most Venice restaurants. Gastronomy with charm has landed in Venice.
