Description: The restaurant is located in Salizzada Ca’ Zusto, between Campo San Giacomo dell’Orio and Campo Nazario Sauro in a very privileged position in the hidden Venice, away from the throngs of tourists yet conveniently close to the centre. The outside seating area is characterized by a plant of vines which embraces the entire facade, creating a pergola which provides welcome shade during the summer heat spells. On the side of the restaurant is one of the narrowest calli (Venetian street or alley) in Venice: two persons cannot walk in it side by side! The trattoria’s inside decor is warm and inviting: two inside rooms, for a total of 50 seats, with furnishings from the late 19th century, including marble tables, graceful sideboards and glass cases, original thonet chairs, and a collection of paintings by well-known artists which embellish the walls. That alone would be enough to attract connoisseurs in search of a special place to have a meal! But, most importantly, the Antica Besseta provides an excellent cuisine which is halfway between the discovery of traditions and the search of new sensations.

We had lunch here in passing and it was so good we booked to come back to dinner. The food is traditional and carefully cooked. The service is stately - you aren't rushed, but they keep an eye on you in case you need things. Friendly waiters, in a way that seems very genuine, rather than pasted-on smiles.

I was a member of a small group tour, and this charming trattoria was selected by our tour leader for one of our included meals. Our leader had pre-selected our food and wine options, and everything was delicious and exquisitely presented. Our antipasti included a fish, scallop, and shrimp in a wonderful sauce that nicely complimented the food.. Our secondi was also seafood-based, and this was served with a purple potato. The atmosphere of this trattoria was delightful and the wait staff was very attentive. From start to finish, this was an exceptional experience.

Chose this restaurant for the last night of our wonderful stay. Slightly concerned by the recent reviews but went based on a recommendation.
Staff were courteous and attentive. Decided to go with the chef’s set menu although should have been warned when I asked the waiter what it comprised to be told it was up to the chef.
Starter was a ramekin sized fish soup with one scallop and one prawn served with assorted breads, nearly broke a tooth on an olive stone in the olive bread. The fact seemed lost on the waiter. Flavour was very good though
Main was eight pieces of pasta with finely chopped mushrooms and prawns. Might have filled two ramekins but again very tasty
Desert was crushed biscuits a ginger cream and fresh fruit (back to one ramekin!). Not special. At €40 per person not worth the money. Other dishes of the a la Carter looked good though and not much more pricey.
Beware giving the chef such a free reign!!

We were very disappointed at our meal at Antica Besseta. The restaurant was recommended by our hotel and the review on TA looked good. We found the food to be at best average, but the prices were in the high side and our service was inconsistent. The waiter who was assigned to our table was usually no where to be found and another waiter wound up getting our food, while making sure we knew he was not supposed to be our waiter.

We have been eating in this nice remote restaurant for many years and have loved to location, the food and the service. But on this recent visit we were amazed at the change in service and the food was more expensive than it should be....and the clientele was almost all noisy Americans. I guess the world has discovered this charming little restaurant and the management is not currently staffing the kitchen or servers to meet the increased demand. We won't go again. It is quite a hike to get there and what was once a little known treasure...is now too busy and noisy, and it has lost its Venetian charm.
