From the outside, this place looks like the Grand Hotel Budapest. Walk inside and the lobby and lounge are mid-century (in need of an update). The sleeping rooms, at least from my perspective, are very good - renovated, spacious, clean, but not overly done. Good bathrooms, comfortable bed. The breakfast is good, not spectacular, but quality ingredients. The location is at the edge of the city center, an easy walk to anywhere and quite close to the cable car to Oberbolzen, which is a *must* if the weather is good.

The staff is odd, as otherwise noted. There is a lovely young woman at the front desk from Rome, a breath of fresh air. The other one just keeps her head down. The young man who works there should consider another line of work. His approach makes one feel as if one is an inconvenient and somewhat annoying interruption in his day. The breakfast room staff, one morning I was there, argued tensely over how the tablecloths were folded. It is as if the Italian/Austrian marriage of Bolzano, part of the fascinating history and charm of the place, is here somewhat frayed and in need of counseling.

Bottom line: if you're only there for sleeping and showering, a good choice. But if you want to hang out in your hotel, I would suggest another venue.

Good afternoon,

we apologize for the tension between the breakfast staff you had to assist to and will definitely try to avoid other similar episods in the future.

we thank you very much for your beautiful words regarding the rooms (most of which are newly renovated), the breakfast (which we are planning to improve in the nearest future with a special regard to the advices given from our guests) and our colleague Sofia (the sunny young woman from Rome :-).

Greetings from Bolzano!

The hotel and staff where lovely. Rooms were quite comfortable; nothing fancy but very well maintained and clean! One negative was the shower; not much pressure. The breakfast was quite good. Location was excellent.

Overall this is a nice centrally located hotel. The room was clean and spacious.

The not so good......
Although it was a warmer than typical September, the staff turned off the air conditioning because it had been cold a day or so before we arrived. The manager instructed the members of our small group to simply open the windows at night to allow the rooms to cool off. While that cooled our room down a bit, it also caused other problems. The staff had also turned on the radiators to heat up the rooms and luckily we noticed that issue and turned them off, but others in our group were unaware of why their rooms were so warm upon returning after a dinner out. The radiators were manually turned on with the typical knob valve, and a wall device had no control over the radiators... However, the real problem with using windows in place of the advertised air conditioning, was the very loud all night street noise keeping most of our group awake while their windows were open to cool the rooms...

Most of the people in our group also reported the problem of the wifi constantly disconnecting. While this allows more users on a limited bandwidth wifi, it is also a big irritation while using the wifi. It appears management is more interested in saving cents on ac and wifi, etc than it is in keeping guests pleased, which is the ultimate mission of any hotel.

A bad couple of nights sleep is not a good review for a hotel, especially when the air conditioning could have been left on so we could simply keep the windows closed for noise reasons....

Also, frankly, the staff, while not rude, is also not particularly friendly, with the exception of the pleasant lady at the front desk.....

Good afternoon,

we thank you for taking your time to review our hotel and wish to reassure you that we are studying a way to reprogramme our heating-cooling system (it was built considering the parameters of a region (South Tyrol) that gives a big importance to the impact that the consume of evergy has on our environment). We will have a meeting with the planners and should be able to get a more fluid system that toggles between heating and cooling according to preset outside temperature values. At the present it is one area and needs to be switched manually.

Regarding the Wifi, recently the bandwidh was upgraded with optic fiber connection. The problem was related to the Wlan Accesspoints and was forwarded to the hardware provider several times. A few days ago a coverage mapping has been done and weak points noted. Several new accesspoints have been ordered to integrate the existing ones. Unfortunately after the complainings of our guests we decided to choose a different company for maintenance as Wifi has a fundamental importance in the offer of a city hotel, so in the nearest future we hope to have a fully efficient Wifi service again.

We are sorry for your unpleasant stay and hope to welcome you again in the future,

Kind regards,.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights with two other couples. The hotel was booked by a tour company as part of a self guided cycle holiday/tour in the South Tyrol/Alto Adige region so we had not chosen it ourselves. The hotel and rooms were clean. The staff were friendly, helpful and spoke excellent English.

We spent 2 nights here prior to starting a biking trip. The hotel and rooms are immaculate, the beds are very comfortable, the breakfast is outstanding and simple ammenties like umbrellas at the door make it a special place. It is located within easy walking distance to town center, the gondolas, and biking and hiking trails. I would stay here again when in Bolzano.

We wish to thank you for the good review.
But we also want to stress out that the hotel is only partially remodeled. The older rooms on the garden received many upgrades and retro-fits, (safety deposit boxes, aircons, new carpets) to meet the 4 star requirements. "Anng" very likely has stayed in the newly constructed "Comfort" rooms with oversize beds.
We are currently working on the planning to get an executive timetable, funding requirement and approved project for the following :
- 25 newly custructed garden view rooms, all of them with balcony and rooms size of 30 sqm or more.
- New restaurant facilities that should seat up to 120 pax with a dedicated buffet area.
- larger Reception area, with Bistro/Bar section, meeting sections, library, briefing rooms
- reclaim the cellars section for leisure purposes or other
- 2nd elevator and extension of the current one to the -1 and +5 level

Now, this is a huge project for a privatly funded hotel. Probably the project will be split up into to steps, in order to keep the entreprise partially opened for corporate guests during the winter. We hope that we can conclude all this within the year 2022
