We decided to visit this church after a very early 8am viewing of the Last Supper... It's is a 10min walk away and free to enter...
As soon as we entered we could see why it's considered the Sistine Chapel of Milan - every inch of this church and the adjoining nun's side is covered in beautifully detailed frescoes which, even for non-artsy people like us, was amazing.
We realised the Duomo was another 15min walk from here so it made for a great stop on a spontaneous unplanned morning!!

The Sistine Chapel of Milan, this little church is beautiful in its own right. The history and story behind it is fascinating. Truly a hidden and forgotten treasure.

This is a completely different experience from the Milan Duomo with its majesty an magnificence. We walked through the small church to the Hall of Nuns behind and sat in the beautiful wooden individualised pews and quietly took in the peace, beauty and sacredness. The frescoes are beautiful. Painting and decoration fill all the walls and ceilings with a feeling of joy and colour. The intimate space encourages reflection. So pleased we chose to see this. It is only a short walk from the Duomo and it helps to have a map. It would be easy to miss the church as you walk past. It is No. 15 Corso Magenta. Free entry.

I hadn't expected what I would find here. The nave, chapel, chiesa is completely fitted out in renaissance decoration. Nothing frilly, but virtually every surface frescoed. I would be hard pressed to point to any one fresco as a Wow-piece, but as a whole, it truly was Wow!

Be sure to go back into the Nuns' Hall. In addition to finding a quire built into a large hall, the beautiful frescoes continue throughout this hall. I would imagine that the hall up the road that cradles da Vinci's Last Supper probably looked something like this before the Allied bombs took out most of the walls there. But back to here -- the women in the frescoes here are Botticelli delicate, da Vinci all-knowing. I don't recall seeing who the artist was -- I will have to look it up -- but the frescoes here have a charm of their own and are blissfully close to floor level so that you can really study them.
